For the same reasons people watch Jerry Springer or Maury. If you're just like them, then their life isn't so bad. Their life’s accomplishments can fit inside toilet bowl and be gone with one flush. By making basic assumptions about someone they can't see or have ever met, gives them a false sense that they know who you are and what you're about.
