Default Anyone have experience w/ claims court?

Does anybody have any experience with magistrate court proceedings (more specifically diminished value claims)? such as filing a complaint, what happens after the defendents response, can court dates be specified or are they given by the court? Please enlighten as much as you can b/c I'm going pro se....

For all those that know I've been dealing w/ this crap since march...I finally filed w/ my ins carrier and they are offering me 500 (which is the deductible they are charging me), so I'm out 120 which is what I paid to have my car appraised. No way I'm settling so as a last resort I HAVE to file a complaint against the at fault driver.

Honestly, the $120 is not worth the trouble. I've tried to claim around $1600, and still nothing. Just a waste of time.
