I have respect for the bike though as someone else said it is a coffin on wheels. It is like playing with death kinda, they are very powerful machines and I think anyone who wants the responsibility to ride one is gambling with life. With all the people that dont pay attention to bikes it is a BIG gamble. I can tell you one thing when I do get one I'm not riding with out full leathers. I would rather look like a complete idiot riding dressed as a professional racer then just a leather jacket and helmet. If I do go down I would rather be covered head to toe than take a chance at risking my life even more. Just 2 cents.
You're on the right track, but you still have no control of certain situations. The biggest killer is dumbasses in cars pulling out in front of you from a side street. Even if your going 45 MPH (or whatever the speed limit), if they pull out in front of you when your closer than 30ft there is not much you can do. You will still T-Bone them more than likely before you have time to react. Gear is great, especially if your sliding, but a helmet only provides so much impact protection. You can be the safest rider ever, but your still relying on everyone else out there.
