I understand the point of it and understand that it is not meant to make IA a pay site but I fear it would end up turning into one because all of the more interesting stuff would be going on in the platinum section.

You should do it, have Red Light District in the paid area and people will be lined up the street to be a member. All the money will go towards events and such at a paid venue so there will be no police harassment.
