Im not pointing anyone out in particular, but for some reason it seems im seeing it more and more. Why do people buy a nice set of wheels, then put cheap tires on them?

i'm with you on that, i see it every single day and read it on the boards just about as much. Wheels might be what makes the look of a car but what's the use of that if it rides and handles like ass.Originally Posted by Marta Mike

thats what im talkin bout. Why not just buy some nice rubber for stock wheels? Or just wait till you can affored nicer tires for new wheels? Nice wheels and shitty tires just kills the look for me.Originally Posted by speedminded
ok bigdare you straight. Lude you not in the category either-lol. Toyos arent bad. Im talking bout people who get a nice set of wheels then throw on some kumho 711s, nexens, or hell ive even seen some no name brands.
I always buy used tires. lol. Certified preowned tires lol. Also I only get used rims. Id rather spend $1000 on clean $2000 rims with scratches here and there, rather then New crap rims for 600-1000 that will be scratched up in 2-3months.
I feel ya a lil bit marta. I just see expensive tires as a waste if your not racing. Dont get me wrong you need a decent set of tire for daily driving, just not top of the line $200 per tire for 15in tires. I think people that ride around on D/R's are really wasting their money or balla! LOL
My stock 14's are 5.5" wide.

lol damn.. Yea 200 bones for a 15inch tire is rediculous. Hell i think that rediculous for my 17s. Although the tire i really want is 200, but its well over priced. Im just talkin bout a decent set. Nothing fancy....ex Kumho sptOriginally Posted by TheSnail
The only reason i would buy expensive tires is to race or if i know i'm going to be doing some mountain runs or something that will justify me spending 600+ on some tires that usually don't last that long anyways.
Ha! I paid $65 each for my 215/45-16 Falken Azenis RT-615's![]()
You kind of contradicted your last statement a couple of posts above. You talk about buying cheap rubber, but your $65 Azenis are along the cheap side. It's not always about the "cheap" tire.Originally Posted by speedminded
I know the Azeni's offer great performance for the money. Hell, if I could find the RT615's in a 255/35/18 for my rear wheels, I'd have them on my car already.

haha, but it's a $145-155 tire I could get for $65Originally Posted by Deaf Pimp
Cost isn't the point as much as the quality...but it was cheaper than any shitty Kumho of the similiar size and it's as a street legal track tire.

iv'e ran the hancook ventus hr11 for some time now. For the price they are very good tires. A set in 17" is somewhere around $400

Those are some good ass tires (for the price). I had those on my Konig Heliums and they were pretty sticky.Originally Posted by PhAtBoYMr2

lol, it's a great lil business to get into...you wouldn't believe the amount of good tires left over after a road race. Depending on the race, class, etc. sometimes you have to race the same tire you qualify in so it leaves lots of practice tires left over...or whatever the case may be. Either way they have to pay to dispose of them so they'd rather just have someone pick them up to sell for cheapOriginally Posted by TheSnail
nitto's a shitty tire, looks cool with their tread patterns and all but that's about it...there's lots of DOT approved "slicks" out now, some made for drag others road racing. The Hoosier's Raceworks run on their race cars are all out slicks but have a single line in them making them DOT approvedOriginally Posted by TheSnail

lololol, when's the last time i saw 10k miles on a tire on a car used for anything other than casual daily drivingOriginally Posted by TheSnail

What are the tires that are like half slick, half with thread? I think they are Nitto's or something.

I'd like to put in my 2 cents. In my case, I have some OZ Ultraleggeras, but I do have my stock wheels with Bridgestone S02's on them. I love the S02's, and I would pay for another 140 tread wear tire rating... except for the fact that I dont want to replace the rear tires every 5k miles. I went with some BFG KDW-2's for my OZ's and I've been fairly impressed with these tires. Do they offer the same amount of grip as the S02's? No... but I'm not replacing them every 5k miles.
Different strokes, different folks. It's not always about the "cheap" tire, but it's how you look at it in prospective. For me, I do an occasional mountain run and the KDW2's do just fine for me. Most people on here probably just see regular roads for 99% of their driving so there is no reason to have an expensive tire to waste.

my falken ziex 512's have an amazing 360 treadwear and i have had them for 12k miles and only 60%.
they stick to the road very well. and have an agressive sidewall that i love. 205 50 15 is the size to go with.
i also love the 57 dollar price tag.
i will be going with something else maybe the since i wont be driving my car as much next year.
Why buy tires that will wear down in 12000 miles? You shouldnt be pushing your car on the street anyway.
Well said.Originally Posted by GIXXERDK
