I will chime in there. I think this jobs report is the most positive report we have seen in almost 3 years. For the first time in that long the participation rate went up AND the job market created enough jobs to more than cover population growth.

A pretty good piece from CNN Money.
What shutdown? Hiring climbs in October - Nov. 8, 2013

It goes down the list to show how mixed the jobs report is and what factors may have skewed it one way or another.

Anotehr one by the Washington post.

Economy added 204,000 jobs in October; unemployment rate ticks up to 7.3 percent - The Washington Post

In this article, they point out that 720k people left the work force, unless they already factored in the federal furloughed workers this number is skewed higher by about 600k. If not factored in, this is the first month in Obama's presidency that more jobs were created than people left the work force in any particular month. This would also explain the rise in labor participation.

its pretty simple concept. My point was despite the jobs being added, UE went up. It went up because the labor participation plays a factor in why Obama and his admin had been trumpeting the economy being so good the last few months.

They were misrepresenting data, they were acting like the economy was getting better, when in fact the economy was losing workers dropping out of the work force.

We finally get a good month of numbers, and UE rises to 7.3/7.4%.

SO, as more and more jobs get added, the UE will rise until the sample size is congruent to people working:people out of work. My bet is that as more jobs get added, we will see UE get to 8% again, which will mean that despite all the Keynesian Econ spending, he will have accomplished nothing in 5-6 years. He will have the same UE he had when he came into office.

    Ok, Blank simple question,

Unemployment went up, is that a good or bad thing?

Do you recognize the reason why UE was falling the last 14-16 months was NOT because the economy improved, but because people left the work force and stopped looking for work?

December jobs report was released yesterday. UE dropped to 6.7% on a net jobs gain of 78k jobs. Why? Because over 300k people disappeared from the labor market. We now have the lowest labor participation rate since Jimmy Carter was squatting in the Whore House.

I could go on, but I think you get the point. I expect to see even worse numbers in Feb with all of the seasonal workers getting the post christmas pink slip.

yeah theres another thread i started that goes into this.

    Add jobs, UE goes UP

    Lose jobs, UE Goes DOWN

clearly they are manipulating the data

You cant have negative jobs gained for the year and CLAIM the UE is going DOWN unless, you are losing workers. The only reason the UE is going down is because they are losing people in the workforce.

In other words, the economy is so bad, it appears GOOD to the non educated voter

The raw data isnt manipulated. The output from that data is manipulated. This is why i much prefer the U6 data over the U3. It also explains why the U3 is much more widely distributed by the media.

The average vote gets lost when you start talking u3 and u6. guys like US get it, but the average voter goes "UE IS DOWN? YAY!"
