Default Dad Shoots His Son While Cleaning Gun

Father cleaning shotgun shoots 10-year-old son in the head in N.C. - U.S. News

    So sad.

I don't get why you'd be cleaning a loaded gun though.

You don't. The first step is to clear the weapon-disassemble-clean-reassemble-functions check-put away. He doesn't deserve to own a weapon.

“Most people think that guns are what kill people, and it’s not,” said Sgt. Eric Gavaghan, another county sheriff’s official, who teaches gun safety classes. “The people and their inexperience, their lack of training, that’s what hurts other people with firearms.”

    Pretty much sums it up.

    Not anything to debate.

Cleaning a loaded gun and injuring or killing someone to me is about the same as throwing a car in reverse without looking in your mirrors.

Not that it makes it any less sad or life ending for the individual that did it, but...

Glad to hear the sheriff speak logically in the face of a horrible situation, otherwise this would have been just another grave for democrats to stand on. I honestly dont know how someone makes this mistake with a shotgun.....

but, lets make this a learning experience for anyone who may have a shotgun or any other gun and maybe help prevent something like this from happening again.

Do you know how to tell if a gun is loaded or not?

A: Every gun you ever pick up is loaded, so treat it as such.
