Default Higher tax crowd, come on in.

Your job is to explain to me what these new higher income tax rates are going to accomplish.

You are for it so it should be very easy to explain.

As a bonus, can you tell me what a "fair" tax rate is for those making over 400K? Also, explain how it will help the country as a whole if they have less of their money to spend.

Whether it helps or not. it is passed.
Now, let's continue to work, live our lives, and pay higher taxes.

At least you admit that it was nothing but wealth envy.

Too bad the rich got off easier than the middle class.

I think we are pretty much at the point where each tax increase will result in less revenue.

Obama supporters are just pulling for "their team". They have no rhyme or reason and that's why you will see no explanation.

    generic idiotic post is idiotic.

Stop talking, you have no idea what you're talking about 100% of the time.

The tax rates arent going to accomplish anything. They raised Social Security, perhaps to help make SS last a little longer? As it was going to be wiped out by my generation or so.

I love higher taxes, it's our responsibility to help this country and by paying more we're helping America. God bless.

One could argue that if you want to pay more, that's your prerogative. However, forcing others to is inherently immoral.

Just as an FYI, there has been a box on your tax return allowing to pay more money for a while...that is, if you're really concerned with "helping" America.

Forcing people to pay higher taxes is immoral? They've been doing it for centuries. What's different now? Is forcing people to pay lower taxes "inherently immoral" too? Can I check the box and pay lower taxes if I want? I know higher taxes chaps a lot of people's asses, but we can still be smart about it.

Socialism has always been there if you wanted it. Does your travel agent not know where China and Russia are on the map?

How did america ever become the country it is without trillion dollar deficits?

Yes, we could have been smart about it..... by getting rid of Obama.

So, you believe during the periods of history when the United States had higher taxes, it was socialism? What is your threshold amount for higher taxes?

Nothing is different now as far as it being immoral or not. Forcing people to pay lower taxes would be immoral too, although as I pointed out the IRS is not currently trying to do that. There is no box to check to pay lower taxes, but there are several ways to pay lower taxes...and you will see more and more people doing such whenever tax rates go up.

Higher taxes =/= socialism. I do not agree with redistribution of wealth. 1-7 people are on food stamps right now while 1-3 own smart phones. People are becoming so dependent on government assistance that they dont know any other way to be. The governments response to that is to keep raising taxes. Everything the government gives to someone, they take from someone else. There needs to be more balance in this equation and the focus should be more on making programs more effective and cost efficient vs funding them endlessly. Obama keeps saying "america voted for my plan".... None of the polls showed that people had any faith in Obama's ability to manage the economy. It blows my mind.... polls look like this... "what is the most important thing to you in this election? A: economy" "who do you think would best handle the economy? A: Romney" "Who are you voting for? A: Obama".

Why cant we use common sense? If someone is starving, what is a better solution? teaching them to fish, or taking them to captain D's everyday?

Well, Obama's answer would be.... "raising everyone's taxes so i can buy the captain D's franchise and use it to distribute food to the needy"

Really? You and many others with your political ideology did want to raise taxes. Thats not what I asked though. I asked what the benefits of the higher taxes are. How are we, as a nation, served better by higher income taxes on anyone?

You guys are arguing about irrelevant topics.

I personally have no problem with higher taxes, and I do not believe 4% on people 400K and above is going to be the end of our civilization.

HOWEVER, what i do NOT believe is that 80-100 billion OR LESS is going to solve our 16+ TRILLION dollar and COUNTING deficit.

The nation has a SPENDING PROBLEM.

How can you expect them to decrease the deficit when so far the only thing they want to do is raise taxes and keep on spending. Even with tax raises, theyre still piling on the debt.

If we pay $50 in taxes, they'll spend $150, if we pay $75 in taxes they'll spend $200, if we pay $100 in taxes, they'll spend $250.....

Like you said...... spending is the problem. Taxes shouldnt be raised one penny until that problem is addressed.

Because like i said in a different thread in which no one said anything and ignored me

When you argue tax rates, you guys fall into the trap of R vs D , right vs wrong, moral vs immoral, cats vs dogs, blah blah blah blah. It leads to bantering and shit slinging that i get tired of participating in.

Ok, taxes have been raised, now what.........................

This is my issue with it. It isnt part of some major plan to deal with deficits. It isnt that last little bit of revenue to balance the budget. Its an extra 80B a year given to the govt for absolutely no reason.

I'm pretty sure tuition increases and maybe a lack of initiative on your part are causing you to not go back to school. Not tax increases. As a matter of fact, if you went to school and did well, you could go for damn near free.

RESPECTFULLY, if you make 52K a year, you see something like a $279 increase in taxes per year. thats jus from the 2.3% in payroll that you should be paying anyway IMO.

$279 should not dictate life changing decisions like education.

I don't think I made a clear point, let me try again-
My household will make in the 175-200k a year following my wife's graduation as it stands now. If I were to go back to school and obtain the degree that I was looking to gain I would be adding an additional 92-100k a year not including the sign on bonuses ( medical field pays well). That puts my house hold at a very high tax bracket. I'm not worried about going to school and affording it, there are way to many financial aids and grants in the medical field. I don't see any reason to further my career when I live comfortably now, ( own 2 newer cars, own a newer house in a nice neighborhood, own a brand new motorcycle, I'm buying a good chunk of property in a couple years, and the only debt ill have is my house and bike by the end of next year. Why should I try to achieve more when I hav to pay more of it to the fed so leaches can get money, and the fed can build turtle tunnels? I don't work to feel good about myself, I work for the money.

So let me get this right, you don't want to further your education to make another $100k because you don't want to get taxed another $5-10k, of which you could probably find a way to write off?

I wish I was rich enough to make stupid financial decisions like this. Lol.

My wife and I have busted our asses to get here, make better financial decisions and you too could make my "mistake". And 5-10k is on the low side considering they have not truly locked in the " financial cliff " situation. They have delayed a major chunk of it for 2-4 months so they could ignore it again until its down to the wire. I have a hard time gaining 40-60k in student loan debt along with all the other health care bullshit I would have to deal with if I went back to school.

I worked 48s for a long ass time ( one 24 hour shift at a fire dept and then a second 24 hour shift at another) to get rid of debt, buy cars, obtain my "wealth". I was working and average of 96-120 hours a week, so I could have what I have. I laugh at people who have degrees and can't get jobs, or complain about an 8-10 hour work day. I work 24 hours no meal breaks ( I eat when I can), I may or may not get a chance to sleep. Fuck your 8 hour work day, and you should have picked a better college program than the 150 other people in your business management class. Sinfix I hate kids so I'm out of the moocher class right there. Blank.cd it's not always about how much money you can make but more of how much headache will it bring afterward. With the new healthcare laws, the new tax rates its gonna be more of a headache than its worth in the long run.
