    Default Politics at its best

    http://www.npr.org/blogs/politicalju...n_politic.html

I picked a source that would appease the leftists on here as NPR is one of the more liberal outlets.

How much do you want to bet that if this was republicans trying this, it would be national headlines for the next month? Yet I have heard very little about this today and came across this article on accident while scrolling through fox news.

IMO this just proves how much of a POS Kennedy is, and considering the state, it will get pushed through by their equally lacking Gov.

hmm, lots of class in that statement for a man that is now deceased. I havent even watched that much news lately but I did read about that story yesterday or the day before. When I read "immediate opening" I knew something was about to happen. All it is is a request, the governor doesn't have to honor it. Big deal.

This would be correct and I did consider deleting this thread. In the end I decided that even in death Kennedy was a democrat first and an American citizen second. Considering that, why should I delete a thread that is still an active issue.

I'm surprised you haven't heard of this yet. I don't even have cable and I heard about it several days ago. Is your point that the governor shouldn't be able to name a temporary successor or are you just trying to point out a political move made in 04?

I have no problem at all with either method of replacing a senator. My problem is with Kennedy pushing for a change in the law to stop an appointment when a republican is in office, now wanting to change it back because a special election right now could very likely put a republican in Kennedy's seat.

Heard on the news today that the Gov. is in favor of making Kennedy's seat an appointment and not using a special election. I dont know how it would work though considering the seat is already officially open. Can they change the law and make it retroactive?
