This has been discussed before. I believe that Fair Tax is great - in theory. Unfortunately, as it is currently written, it has about as many loopholes as Obama's economic stimulus package, and thus, I cannot support it.
Search for the other thread, and you can see the arguements from each viewpoint.

I know I had one that was several pages lonh that brought up a lot of very good points either way.

To those that don't support it I ask a simple question. How is the fairtax worse than what we have now?

I like those guys. I listen to them when I can on the way to school. They are funny. I don't always agree, but it is funny none the less.

It is not necessarily worse than our current system.

I brought up many issues in the other thread.

I'm not saying it is perfect by any means. I am simy saying that there is nothing that isn't on par with or better than what we already have.

I think that it could work is obvious. The problem is how they would implement it, and the long term ramifications of the loopholes that the current plan has.

Implementing for individuals would be pretty easy, business would not be. I would think businesses would be all for this plan though. They would actually make assitional profit be cause they keep a small percentage of the tax they collect.

I admit I haven't researched it too in depth but it seems great. The tax code is unnecessarily complex right now, I know that for sure.

It is not a simple as it seems. You would have to expressely repeal all of the existing federal taxes, and there are a lot of them. If they did not repeal each, all you would be accomplishing is adding an additional tax on the public.
