    Default Sr20ve ECU tune

Hey guys, I was wondering if Scotty would have the hardware to tune my ecu. About two years ago I found a guy in Australia that did chips for the sr20ve. He had a base map for my setup which was for the cams I am running, raised rev limit, while using turbo sr injectors which I put on. I crank it up expecting the worst, but it ran perfect with an A/F flatter than my 12yr-old sister. Despite him advising me that it’s a base map with no adjustments to timing, I thought it was great. He sent me links to Moates for a chip burner, modulator? Etc.. Though I just tried other mods and a/f’s working around the ecu to hit 200whp. Now at 200, I think I should have taken his word about tuning the base map prior to 2yrs down the road. As far as the more technical stuff. It’s a sr20ve ecu, and I see yall also use Nistune, though I don’t believe Nistune can do the sr20ve which is a 16bit, while the sr20de is an 8bit. I looked at Nistune’s site and the closest thing to what I got looks like a type 4? Either way, with the Aussie that I got the board from telling me to go to Moates website to get the equipment to tune the ecu, I am willing to bet the ecu is Moates compatible. I took off the cover of the ecu to take pictures for yall, but I think it does not show very much. Let me know if you think you could tune this burned ecu, and I’ll swing by whenever yall have time for a tune mostly dealing with the virgin timing map.

    Thanks, Voya

what brand/company is the board? if i can read and arrange the data in nistune then more than likely, but i'll have to see if there are any definitions for it so it knows where to put the data.

post a pic of the sticker on the cover and type out all the numbers on it so i can do a little research. is the ecu you're using the stock ecu for the engine originally?

The ecu is the stock VE ecu, and a guy from Australia said he makes boards for them though I dont know the brand. I think the Moates software can tune it though. He sent me a board about 4"x2" that came with a ribbon to be soldered in. It also had instructions to move around several resistors. I sent the ecu to a local tv/vcr repair shop and they soldered in the new board. I went through some old pms with him and copied some of the things he said:

    "hi voya,
that definately sounds like a good plan all right. you will to have a tuning program or hex editor and a chip burner, which can be purchased from places such as www.moates.net. if not you could definately install a safc and tune the a/f ratios. do a quick study of things and let me know what you want to do."

    And

    "hi voya,
the ecu board is now on its way,
i have set the rev limit to 8500
i have set the vvl points to 5200 & 5800 as they seem to work better when they have approx 600rpm difference, all to do with cylinder filling, overlap, etc i think. this program also requires 370cc injectors with standard fuel pressure and set on standard base timing , i have also turned off the feedback control as they seem to run better without it when they are tuned correctly. this program is based on a tune that i did for one of my customers and has been live tuned on the road with an emulator and knock box and afr gauge, so should be pretty close for you. as i said though , no 2 cars seem to be entirely the same so please check, especially if we are both running different fuels. if you have any problems or worries, just get in touch with me .
    have fun."

One thing I could do is next week, I could swing by the shop, and open up the ecu to let you see if you recognize the board, or see if it is compatible to the moates stuff yall got.

    Thanks, Voya

i've got a question into nistune regarding this as well if they are familiar. based on those emails he tuned the hex code and knows the addressing which is pretty difficuult and time consuming. he also mentioned using an safc to fine tune, which is what everyone did before bikirom, nistune, etc...they would make basic changes with certain items in the code and use the safc to fine tune.

call me next week and we can arrange to meet. 678-614-3596...leave a message if I don't answer.

I just emailed him this about 5min ago to try to get more info:

Hey Barry, its me Voya. The board I got from you still performes top notch. I have not had a single problem with it. After several mods, I got to 200whp, but it seems harder to get anymore power out of the motor. One thing I decided to look into latley was tuning the ecu's timming on the dyno. I contacted a local shop that does tunning on burned ecus, and they use Moates for tunning Hondas and Nistune for burning nissans. Now I looked into Nistune website, but they dont make anything for sr20ve. The guys asked me what brand the board is, but I did not know. However, I told them that it should be compatible to the Moates hardwhare, since you one told me to go to Moates for the equipment to tune the ecu. So if I was to get them to fine tune the timming on the dyno, what all would they need from Moates to do that? Other than that, your base tune is awsome.

    Thanks Barry,
    -Voya
