    Default vtec problem

every so often my vtec likes to not engage for a short period of time, or rather my vtec only likes to work for a shorter period of time.
it stopped engaging just recently again. all that happens is when i hit 5500 you hear a louddddd roar but it doesn't pull whatsoever. what could be the issue?

    I'm running an h22a with a p13 ecu.

    hmm.....

Not gonna lie, I'm not a Honda guy at all, but isn't the VTEC solenoid oil pressure controlled? Pretty sure it is...

If so, maybe you're experiencing oil pressure issues? Oil too thick or poor quality? Maybe just a bad VTEC solenoid?

i've tried different solenoids and none have worked. my oil is fresh too.
i did however clean the gasket/screen and it worked for about a month but it quit now lol.

Check all of your wiring and connections. Does the check engine light come on?

Hmm. Seems like the common denominator is oil related. Or maybe sheer coincidence?

Prior to cleaning, your VTEC worked intermittently correct? And after cleaning the screen it worked consistently again?

Maybe you should look into doing that again...

Cleaned screen -> Worked for 2 weeks straight without fail -> completely stopped working out of nowhere

oh and i assumed it was the screen since it randomly stopped working so i checked to see if the screen was clogging up or something but it looks clean.

Check for dent in the pan, even the smallest dent by pickup tube can cause this

There's plenty of dents in the pan but would that really make it work on and off? If the dents really would affect it, it would seem like it would work every other time or something like that. During the time that it's working it never fails once.
    does that make sense? lol

Check knock sensor wire. Oil pressure sensor. Or your car is in limp mode because of the CEL.

first , you need to jump the connector and read ALL THE CODES. then maybe someone can help you a bit more. Is this in a Prelude or something else?

Whats stopping you from pulling the pan and knocking the dents out?

problem fixed. there were loose wires on my harness so i'm assuming my passengers would kick the ecu and knock the wires around lol.
i did go to a local shop and they told me to do what Emmino said. knock the dents out of the pan and replace the baffle if it had been bent inward.

Ah yea, i just found the thread i posted on here about it...first i thought it was the TPS..it turned out that my speed sensor wires were causing it...

is your ECU just chilling on the floorboard or behind the kickboard?

that's probably it because one of the wires that likes to slip out is the TPS one.
it's kinda just chilling on the floor lol
