    Default Tranny problem

Ok, so my co-working is having this odd problem with her transmission. Its a 97 Mazda protege and whenever she's in drive, the car will suddenly go in overdrive. She is sick of getting all the time by this. I"m thinking there is a short somewhere or a comp in the tranny is messed up. Has anyone else heard of this problem? Help

Mazda is well known for there crappy automatic trannies, the majority of them all are pure 100% crap. tell her time to swap to a 5 speed. I believe a 97 should still use the 5 speed g series tranny
I spend money on HP not Brand Names.

If it's a CD4E, shoot it and put it out of it's misery. I hate those things, I'm on my second one. I guess I shouldn't expect much different since it was designed by Ford.

Thanks for the info, but what is a CD4E Enlighten me cus im not a big mazda person. Also she's not going to want to convert. I told her she might need a new tranny and she gave me the ", are you shitting me" look. This is why im staying away from automatics for good.

The CD4E is a Ford designed, automatic transmission that was used on 94-up FS-series (engine code) equipped cars. It was found on the MX6, 626, Probe, and possibly Protege, but I'm not completely sure. The transmissions have been prone to failure due to overheating.

You have nothing to worry about. Anything pre-94 (and post-99) is just as strong as any other auto tranny. And FYI the auto tranny on V6 equipped Mazdas aren't any worse than any other auto tranny on any other car.
