    Exclamation Transmission Whistle?

Alright guys, this is my First Thread (except for the newbie one) and I need some help with a problem i keep hearing is "common" among 240SXs I have a '93 240SX SE auto KA24DE DOHC

It seems that when i accelerate over roughly 3500 RPM I start to get a whistling sound.

I took it to my mechanic, (b/c i dont do trannies) and he said that it was a common problem and as long as the car is changing gears (and it is) then to not worry about it.

But it is a VERY irritating sound when I am driving "enthusiastically" drop me a line, IM me, or PM me. I NEED to know what in the world is going on.

Im tired of people saying its a "common" problem, when i cant find a fix or documentation of it anywhere....

Could be your torque converter. I've never heard of this problem being common either. Don't really know what to tell you.

And just what are you doing going over 3500 rpms in an auto anyway??

Just messing with you my 240 was automatic for a couple months.

Lifes a bitch then you drive stick.

Are you shifting the automatic like it's a manual? Like starting in 1, then driving and going to 2 and then putting it into D?

or are you just putting it into D and driving the dickens out of it?

My auto tranny went out in my s13 and it never made a whistling sound. And I've never heard of this being a common problem either.

Nah, i dont drive it like a stick at all, i love that its a stick b/c of the traffic round here. But I do drive the hell out of it. I actually have read at club240.com that some ppl get a whistling from a vaccum hose leak? i have no idea where that would be
Does anyone have a link for this or even heard of it?

also, i listened to it more today and its really doing it throughout the entire RPM range, it just becomes louder the higher it gets

Im guessing you mean you like its an auto because of traffic.

Yeah sounds like a vacuum that has come loose. Should be really easy to fix.

    Where are you located?

I live off 85 on Clairmont Exit 91 - you know someone that can help me out? for parts or something? it really is a VERY annoying sound, and I would love for someone (other than my mechanic - b/c i dont think he knows alot about 240s) to check it out.

OK, it seems that the problem has been solved.
It is a leak in my exhaust ( a small one ) and the sound is equivelent to a turbo spooling up. Its pretty funny actually, but that just means im going to replace my exhaust as the next thing on my list.
Thanx to E&E Motorsports for looking out, ill have the work done as soon as I have cash!

i had the same problem, but i thought my trans was fixin to come outta the car. turns out some ass hat tried to replace the muffler by welding the exhaust pipe to the wall of the muffler and not the pipe. i replaced the exhaust with 3" titanium turbo pipe and now i cant hear anything.
