What oil do you guys use? And why? I'm just curious as to what the vw's around here are using. I use Mobil 1 10-W30 synthetic...but i've been reading on vortex of A LOT of people running 5-W30, 5-W40, and even 0-W40.

depends on who is doing the oil change... but i always use dealer filters Amsoil/Valveolin synthetic 7500 milage(or other high milage)... i don't know the exact weight just whatever factor suggested
i believe EPG uses Amsoil in their rides and Autofab does Valveoline(maybe Castrol) which i believe is factory suggested
VW dealerships only have Castrol and I was gettine my throttle body cleaned out...again, so I just said to change it while they were at it.
Most people I know really support Mobil 1.

make sure not to use conventional oil in your car. My dad had to do a major service on his 2002 passat 1.8T recently because sludge had built up in the pan and clogged the pickup causing lower oil pressure which threw a CEL for the timing tensioner. he said according to the mechanic and VW vortex boards, synthetic is always recommended in those motors. His car has 85k miles and the oil was religiously changed every 3,000-3,500 miles but was never converted to synthetic. he said they switched him over to 10w-30 synthetic.
Eh I guess I should word my question differently...what viscosity do you guys use? I've always used Mobil 1 synthetic in the VR...just wondering if I should run 5w-30
