    Default Civic Error Codes

I work with this girl who just bout a 2002 civic EX and she went to get emissions done and they did them and did a tune up and now her engine light comes on now and then. So she has been going back and forth with this shop performing all the "test" to find out whats wrong. She got a print out of the codes.

    PO300B Random/Multiple Misfire
    PO301B Cyliner #1 Misfire detected
    PO302 Cylinder #2 Misfire Detected.

She also told me the guy took the Plug wire out of cylinder 1, said it smelled burnt and switched it with another wire (either 2 or 4 she doesnt remember) and she doesnt think he ever took changed it out on the distributor cap.

So basically im asking if him switching the wires would cause these codes to trip or not? if its not the case i suggested she get new wires sense one smelled burnt. I would just go look and see if the wires are in correct order but It has some black cover over where the wires go in to the block and i dont know the correct order on the distributor cap. Any help would be appreciated

02 Civics are direct fire coil on plug. There is no Distr. It sounds like some of the coils have gone bad. A good way to test is to clear all the codes and then start the car. If the codes come back as misfire #1 and #2 then move coil 1 and 2 to 3 and 4. Clear the codes and start the car again. If the code is now #3 and #4 then that tells you which coils are bad. If the code is still #1 and #2 then there is a wiring problem. Hope that makes sence. Let me know if you have any other questions.

im thinkin the coils sounds about right. I just assumed Distributor cap from some late 90 model civics i worked on. She says sometimes when she goes to crank it, its takes a lil longer to start. I was thinking maybe a connection is bad somewhere sense it comes on and off randomly, start was rough. She said it didnt occur till after tune up so could they have not put something on right? (im not familiar with the system now) so is there connections i could quick check?

O and judging by the way she has described this shop they probably didnt use the good spark plugs.... She doesnt remember what they used though

$16 dollars a PIECE!!!!! OMG. x4. 64bucks for plugs alone, i think she needs to go toa diferent shop and get taken care of. if your not gonna take it to MSPi or any toher shop DEALER, then do as Charles says , also check and make sure the plugs areproperly tighten down and not loose

her light is on with her maintance light on also now. She took it to autozone and the guy ran the test and said same thing, mis fire 1 and 2. He told her she needed a Tune up and she said i just one. He then asked what sparkplugs did they use cause there are only certain kinds that should be used with that model civic. Is this true? maybe they used some other kind and didnt gap them right or at all? could this be a simple spark plug issue?

I TOLD U TO CHECK THE DAMN PLUGS DOOD!! I THINK THE CAR SHOULD HAVE NKG PLATINUMS AND THEY DNT COST NO DAMN $16 A PIECE. DENSO IRIDIUMS ARE LIKE $12 A PIECE AT THE MOST. PLUG GAP SHOULD AROUND 1.0-1.1MM IF ITS THE SAME AS MOST CIVICS.
