    Default VQ35 powered 240?

I know this has been done before, but not common. I am considering starting a new project and this has caught my attention. I love the VQ35 in my maxima, and have driven a couple G35s. I know it is very light, much lighter than the ka24. Good hp and tq for a NA engine. A 350Z drivetrain out of a wreck is really not that expensive either. So my question is what do you guys think about this swap???

It probably wouldn't fit too easily...

But if you have the money and want to put forth the effort, go for it.

How is it lighter than a KA? Its easier to swap in an SR then crank up the boost than fabricated crap for that to fit. You'll spend more money on that to fit in and have less performance than swapping in a motor.

Damn wish i could find the link to this guy that did this swap! Afterwards the front of the car was like up in the air because the engine was so much lighter and the weight was farther back and lower. He had to adjust the suspension quite a bit. The vq35 is super light, about 100lbs less than the ka24.

I dont care about making a 500hp car, so not too concerned about how easily buildable the sr20 is. I just think it would be fun to have a nice smooth, torquey NA 240 with about 300hp, 300ft/lbs. Im not going to drag race it and i want to do something different. Its just an idea so anyone that knows anything about it im looking for info.

It's been done a few times, I believe it didn't take much to mount it, and left tons of room too. I will see if I can find a link to the guy that did it. Be careful about what you say with SR's here too, there are some who don't care for other options. Go for it.

The SR20 is like 75lbs lighter than the KA. It also gives the 240 almost 50/50 weight balance. For about $1800 and another $400-500 in swap parts (which includes a new clutch), you can't go wrong. Why do you think so many people have done it?

Cause it's easy, and you can do it at your garage at home if you wish. I don't like easy.

Thank you for your support... im looking in to what it is really going to take and i think it is do-able. I am definitely going to need to find some help on this for fabrication and all. Im moving in 2 weeks to the Orlando area for about 15 months to go to school at MMI and will have to look into shops down there. Ive got the money necessary to do it and am serious about it. If anyone can find any info on people that have done the swap before let me know.

And yes, I KNOW THAT IT IS CHEAPER AND EASIER TO DO A SR20DET SWAP. That is not the point, as some of you understand.

PS someone buy my DA w/b16 swap and many mods! that would help too

Good luck with that. I believe there were a few guys who did VG30DETT swaps into 240's back in the day befor the SR's became popular. The fabrication shouldnt be too hard really just depends on how experienced the person doing it is. Good luck with all the wiring though
