e30 325i
im looking to swap the tranny in my 325i to a 5speed just wondering if i find a donor car what kinda trouble im looking at?
also my friend told me i need a mass air conversion but im lost on what he means is it just a intake or is it a whole new setup

It is not very difficult. I have done two clutch changes on my 5spd. You will need to put together extensions and ujoints to get to the top tranny bolts. As far as what you will need for the 5spd swap, tranny, shifter assembly, pedal assembly, clutch pressure plate flywheel, driveshaft, tranny crossmember, and a few other things. Go over to e30tech.com or r3vlimited.com and do some searching. One of the members would probably put you a swap kit together for around $500. You can also go to Strictly German in braselton, couple miles past Road Atlanta. They will have everything you need in stock. They sometimes quote shitty prices on the phone but if you go with cash they'll give you a good deal. I'm sure he'd put you a used kit together for around $500.

mass air flow conversion? maybe you mean a mass air flow meter? go with the stock one. ask for bobby at strictly german. he knows all about bimmers. i tried to do a 535 MAF (mass air flow) swap but it didnt work so just go with the stock one. bobby will hook you up with everything you need for the tranny stuff
how well does the stock meter flow? since it has the throttle position sensor trap door, it looks like it wouldn't flow very well.
its not bad... could be better but w/e. im doin an engine swap soon so im not worried about it at the moment
The problem isnt flow so much.. its the contacts on the sensor.. and the return spring. After almost 20 years they get corroded and weak. There are conversion kits to convert AFM to MAF.. But they tend to be VERY expensive.Originally Posted by non2os13
