Default I'm completely losing power at 4000 RPM???

This may be a very easy question, but this has never happened to me so I'm not sure what it is. This has just started a few days ago, whenever I get to about 4000 rpm's all the sudden i completely lose power to the wheels, the engine is still revving but the entire car just slows down. This only happens if the throttle is near wide open, if I slowly drive it up to 4000 it won't happen. But if I am running it wide open, and a hit around 4000 rpm's you can feel something vibrating badly, as well as a sort of high pitched whistling noise. I can't really describe it any better than that, because I only let this happen for about a split second. The car has 43,000 miles on it. I'm not sure if this has anything to do with it, but lately when I shift into 2nd it makes a loud clanking noise as well as it is much harder to get into gear than the others. Could the loss of power be a vacuum leak? Does this sound right? This is really starting to piss me off, so any help you guys have would be great. I guess I'll just take it to the dealer as soon as possible. Thanks.

well i talked to someone else i know, and they said it sounded just leak a vacuum leak. because of the shaky idle, and the whistling noise/loss of power all sounded like a vacuum leak to them. or could this be the clutch or something else? (what my dad thought it was).

It's under warranty, but that sounds like drivetrain...

Possibly. Make sure you check tranny fluid... also see if you can go from 2nd - 5th w/out using the clutch (use RPMS only). If it hangs at any gear, then you have tranny (syncro) probs.

    Sounds like a clutch.

No power after 4k rpms in a 3g eclipse? Hmmm...I know why there is no power.

    I had too.

Hey, there are some decent turbo kits and S/C for the GT.

Do what I did for my 1st kit. I ignored ALL the BS $100 and 200$ mods. And I SAVED. All of my friends were getting wheels, CAI, NOS, etc. When I came out w/ the D16 turbo I KILLED them. After I saved 4k for the kit, I knew I could save any lesser amount (1k) for wheels... I built up my confidence for patience, and for saving.

yea thats sort of where I am right now, I just have wheels, and lowering springs, so I havn't spent too much. I am just trying to decide if I really want to invest a lot of money into this car.

It's a decent platform, especially since it's underrated (STILL has a proven 4G6 enigine) and you'd be a dimond in the ruff. I say get some spray to hold u over, then save a few months for the boost.

Alright I may have found the answer to my problem, on club3g.com. See the two holes, that are supposed to have a little plastic rivet type thing holding the "snorkel" of the intake down. Well, both of them have popped off of mine, and i didn't think to much of it. well appearantly other 3g owners have had the same problem. what happens is during acceleration the snorkel actually gets sucked up to the hood, seriously blocking air flow. im gonna try it tomorrow, hopefully that fixes it.
