it will run without it however, jus tnot as powerful or as smooth...

whats the commpression ratio?
aite, thanks ppl, guess i gotta pump premium . . . =/
cheap bastard lol
No siggy as of right now
When I had my Prelude, I tried to skimp down to midgrade, and I immediately felt the difference. I would only use what the mfr recommends, as they are the ones who designed the vehicle.

Every car says premium required. With a n/a stock honda you could put farm gas 85 octane in it.
^not true. my 92 accord doesnt. and a ka 240 doesnt. but thats all i would use on the SR is 93+. my 300zx n/a had premium only though. Most of your sports cars wil require premium unless otherwise specified.
mine doesn't :-DOriginally Posted by 1439/2000

lol- but seriously, thats not right. If you look in your owners manual, it will tell you what kind of fuel is required. My Civic lx did not prescribe premium, my Prelude S did not require premium, but my Prelude Si did. And my S2000 does too.
If you put a lower grade of fuel than what is recommended, you will have premature detonation and running issues. Just like if your car does not require premium, it will avail you nothing to step it up to premium. Of course, the car will run, but not with the power, smoothness, or efficiency originally intended.

read your owner's manual... give it what it says... putting non premium in most non premenium cars probably wouldn't be too bad, as the computer will compensate... and vice versa, I don't think putting in premium in a non premium car will net you any major gains assuming it's relatively stock.
Please tell me if you think my car looks good. But don't tell me if you think it's ugly - only on IA
my SI requires premium, so why risk it to save $2.50 at the pump?Originally Posted by bludprix

ok, i get the point. the reason for asking was to assure my dad to pump premium if ever he takes the car out

If you cant afford premium you cant afford your car.
as the only person here that probably has the same car described here in the post premium gas is not required the car will compensate for it but you will notice a major performance difference. unless of course you boosted it or modded it to have a higher compression ratio
p.s. dont you niggas go down my throat about your car not being prelude because all of you are describing accords and what not. the only person i know here that has a prelude is theskinnyone which i think has a very clean lude when i saw it at the target meet last sat.

I don't have a 5th gen, but I had two 4th gens. Like everyone was saying- the car will run, just not in the same capacity the manufacturer intended. I don't understand why you or anyone else would deliberately do something the manufacturer advises against.
G37s 6MT/coupe
So- everyone has come to an agreement. The car will run; just not as smoothly as its supposed to.

idk, but i have a 5th gen and tried using regular and it ran like dog shit.Originally Posted by bludprix

all about comp ratios and cylinder pressure.
93 burns slower and reduces likely hood of detination and preignition
to those that are stupid, those are 2 different things.
1) he still hasn't answered what the compression ratio is, that will tell you if it's required
2) being that it's upper model of the prelude and says use premium only then why argue with what the manufacturer says? Honda has nothing to do with oil/gas prices, they certainly don't benefit from it, so why do you think they would they say use a more expensive fuel? If anything it hurts them because premium only cars will discourage people from purchasing them.
3) Worse comes to worse go down a grade until it starts to knocks then go back up a grade, it's not going to hurt it it.
