Bah I was looking for the link but unable to find it. turborx7.com has a page with a lot of Mazda motor info. There is a specific page that lists all motors from the first one made I think.

I'm suprised there's not a denomination for the low and high compression versions....

I have the high comp. version (99-05 Miata), i was thinking about using the lower comp. block with my head, but i've always been a fan of high comp. low boost engine.. but i guess 12psi isnt very "low boost" for 10:1 compression lol.... probably should switch to the 9.5:1 block from the 94-97 Miata's.

what do you know your right. lol Yea there's a automatic motor and the manual motor. One is higher compression than the other. that's funny

10:1 @ 12psi thats nuts. Your going to fry your motor if you don't watch it. lol
I would definitly suggest that you go with the lower compression pistons. you dont need the bottom end or the block, just the pistons I dont think there are really any differance is the block or rods.

Now that YOU mention it, there are 3 versions. The ones i mentioned above are for manual cars, i dunno the specs on the a/t ones though.

As for CP on my car, you know the real thing about it is intake temps. The colder you can make them, the more boost you can run. I should say, im not at 12psi on my 99 yet, still at 7-8.5psi.... once i do the 60mm s/c pulley , it'll go to 11-12 psi (will add intercooler, injectors and SAFC too). I was running 10-11psi on my 96 though with no detonation at all. I was even runnign 14* advance timing. The key was big injectors annnnnnd intake temps. Between all the heatshielding to keep exhaust heat away, the air inlets (turn signal intakes on Miatas) and the intercooler, the coolant lines removed from the t/b, 160* t-stat and a huge KOYO radiator (55mm)... i had no problems with heat.... hell my intake manifold never got much warmer then ambient temps when it wa warm outside and when it got cold (for the short time i had the car while it was cool out) i would say intake temps at the manifold were no more then 10* max more then ambient.

Somone once told me that a Jackson Racing s/c will never blow more then 10psi..... hell the s/c on a Cooper S is the same M45 blower and its pushing 11psi stock on the S.

But yeah, there are 3 versions of the "BP" 1.8L in the Miatas. Whats the motor code for the 2.0L Protoge fro mthe early/mid 90's?? It was a DOHC engine.....looks like this... (yes, thats my old Miata).I figured out the valvecovers were interchangable with minor mods... looks much better then stock Miata.

I'm pretty sure that it's was a 1.8. Like the black valve cover It looks a lot better than the stock one. surprised that they didn't inset the valve cover lettering like the 1.6 valve cover

THe FE3 2.0 Dohc is made off the F2 2.2 motors found in teh 1g Probe/mx6 that came witht he turbo option (F2T) in the 89-92 MX6 GT and Probe GT, but it is built like the 1.8 BP dohc. it was used in the model jspec/edm 626's /mx6's(capella) and it used to be used in the Kia Sportage trucks. Very very stout and strong motor. Alot of people swap them into 1st g probes/mx6/626. They are rated @ 170hp/160tq (or somewhere near that) in the jdm/edm version. But the usdm detuned version foudn in the sportage is 130hp/tq.

    info:

Picture of it it looks exactly like the BP just obviously bigger.. hard motor to come by.

But this isnt the same motor as THe 2.0 FS that was in the newer proteges, adn the Mazdaspeed protege.

add some more to the list:
    2.2 F2
    2.2 Turbo F2t
    2.0 FE3
    KLDE us 2.5 v6
    KJ(de?) Supercharged 2.3l V6
    JFT 3.0 Turbo

The KJ is KJ-ZEM I believe the M stands for Miller Cycle. This is the strangest motor you will ever read about. The intake valve stays open during the compression stroke...The Supercharger does the compression work. Then the intake valve closes just before fuel & spark. I am currently rebuilding one. It would be a fun project to stuff it into my Mx-3 but I will probably just put it back into the Millenia and sell it.
