    Default Miata questions...

Im leaning very close to getting a new body style miata, 99+ more than likely getting a 99....I wanted some people to post opinions about which parts/suspension/wheels etc.etc. might be good for auto-x and mountain runs... (leaving show, and going to go all out) Price doesnt matter... im also looking into either the flying miata turbo set up or the jackson racing supercharger.... idea's on lightened fly's to diff. clutches...etc.etc. Colors of the car....

My basic idea was this: (I would also like opinions on this as well)
99 miata, black with black top, black wheels with a chrome lip, HID's, full Tein suspension, I cant remember the name of the exhaust, lightened fly wheel, stage 2 clutch, hard dog roll bar, flying miata turbo set up... and some other stuff that I just had a brain fart about....

Opinions needed, I promsie I wont get frustrated in this thread! lol

Tein suspension isn't the best for miata's. JIC makes a great set, Koni also makes a nice set that I'll be running on mine. The JR sway bar set works great and has some tuning flexibility. Wheels are up to you but I've found the BFG KDW2's work the best. They don't have too much tire noise and stick very well. Flywheel and clutch is best as an ACT/Fidanza combo, not the cheapest but definately the best for the money. Your probably wanting the Borla exhaust but know that for the NB's you'll need a midpipe since none of them come with it. Get the Boss Frog roll bar, its easier to see through the back. For easy and cheap get the JR supercharger, I can't say they don't work because we've got 3 cars with it. I personally like the Flyin Miata Ubercharger, its a whipple instead of a roots so its capable of alot more power but costs twice as much. It does however come with a standalone computer and an FMIC.

Thanks Jamey! (or Ryan, not sure who is running the CCR name) haha....

And Tank, CCR, they are a GREAT shop from macon GA... they do pretty much anything and everything from swaps to suspension to whatever! You name it, they do it...and I would certainly say they are one of the best shops in South GA! I would reccomend them to anyone...and I can gaurentee that I will be going through them again to get all of my work done with my next car cause I know they will take care of the car, and me!

    Anyone got anything else?

what turbo setup you plan on going with. I had a GReddy on mine 10psi and a 50 shot of n20. My brother is running 14psi high boost on a GReddy kit as well. Fun little cars with a turbo. Wish I still had mine

Hard tops for miatas are not that cheap. Occasionally I see them sell for $1,000 - $1,500. However, I have seen them sell for as much as $2,200, so..... SAVE UP AND GET ONE!!! hehe, jk.

That's still half the price of the S2K....I would jump all over one for a grand to $1,200 if i were her. Black on black with 20% tint and carbon fiber hood and trunk with black or gold BBS or 16" SSR Competition wheels would be so freakin hot.

those would be a huge waste of cash seeing as the stock aluminum lids generally weight less than their carbon counterparts.

You can also try mazmart, its a mazda junkyard inside the perimiter. Thats where I got mine from and it already matched the car so everything worked out.

Mazmart does sell them and they're usually in great shape but you can generally find them on ebay or on the Miata.net classifieds. I spend a lot of time on that forum and there is a wealth of knowledge about everything relating to miatas. I personally don't like hardtops, too much hassle and my car spends 99% of its time with the top down anyways. The cars are not straight line cars and weren't designed with that in mind. If you want a cheap and fun car to drive roads with corners you can't find a better car. I can take my relatively stock miata to an autocross and beat much faster cars, including several turbo hondas. The FM II turbo kit is pretty sweet but there's something about instant boost that I like about the supercharger. The greddy kit will only fit a second gen with some modification but its not that hard to do.

"not straight line cars", that is exactly why they should have hardtops...dunno if they provide much rigidity to the body but the idea is there.

As for the autocross comment...a front wheel drive on a flat course is hard enough then you throw in power? Before the LSD i would gently roll into the throttle coming out of the turns and light up the inside tire...How does a stock miata compare to a showroom Mini?

Depending on which mini they do rather well, throw in a Works S and that changes a little. Any car without an LSD is going to have traction problems, at least with RWD it doesn't make the car push too bad. Mines got an LSD so I don't worry about it, let the back step out and have some fun. Any car can be made to be fast, especially when its as light as a miata. As for the hard top, it takes the fun out of the car for me. It doesn't add any rigidity and just adds more weight. 90% of the fun is not having a top for me.

I can see that. I have ridden with Mike (droptopdrifter) with the top up, and with the top down. Having the top down does add to the fun factor.

I'm quite familiar with 356 speedsters, bug-eyed sprites, spitfires, mga's & mgb's, xk120's, etc...all beautiful convertible sports cars (minus the MGB-GT) so it's not that i don't feel comfortable in a convertible, i'm just not fond of any convertibles since then...i think the S2k and miata with hardtops are so hot and would prefer an M coupe (M shoe) over a M roadster or Z3 anyday! I won't even get into what i think about the Z3 coupe). Then you have the modena vs. modena spyder ($50k more to go topless!)

    I own Tiny Twins old Miata...its undergoing a retro-rebirth.

I have many Miata parts including some forced induction stuff, primarily for 90 - 97 cars. I just sold a hardtop for $850 and you can find tham in that price range...but expect to pay premium prices at Mazmart. Trust me, there are better options for used Miata parts.

It should be noted that there are better choices for "straight line" fun yet a Miata can be made to run fairly quick. The FM2 setup mentioned is good for 13 sec quarters, and mid/high 12's in the right hands. This combined with extremely good handling characteristics make the Miata a very enjoyable car to drive.

who cares, they come off just as easily as they go on. i just like the look of the hardtop but it's kinda hard to set her on or bend her over the rollbar and tag it like a pam and tommy video if it has a top

Riding around topless is fun and all but considering your luck with cars i suggest a 74 buick, something that can take some hits and body parts can be purchased for about ~20 bucks each....
