I want to know what kind of engine swap can I do to my 1998 240sx. Is the sr20 a good engine. How much would an engine cost for my 240.

RB25 Skyline engine if you have the dough. That's for mad powa.
ohhhhhhhhh shittttttttttttt, no you didn't.
please, for the love of god, just learn how to search the internet. there is more info on this question out there than you can possibly comprehend, it's all opinionated, and that's all you'll get here instead of concrete info
www.google.com
the 240sx sucks, and all the engine swaps you can get are weak.. I'd strongly suggest you sell it and buy another car that's faster... the 240sx is a 16 second car in the 1/4 mile, even if you spend the money to swap an engine, it's still gonna be only a mid 14 car, just sell it, it sucks.Originally Posted by chivistamex

MMMM GNX, I do love the Cyclone too, nothing like a factory turbo pickup that will run 12's stock. SR's a good motor, RB's are good motors, best reccomendation is to jump on a 240sx messageboard and search, you'll just start alot of trouble asking this sort of question on this forum. If you have the money go RB26, or SR20 if you want to drift, or rb25 if you can't afford the 26, or RB20 if you're on a budget and want a swap with 190hp stock. Or build your KA and boost it, we're building 2 now shooting for 800+.

Scoop him up while he is still confused and put an rb20 in his car quickly before he knows what hit him.
Well if he searches the internet he will realize that the rb20 is handsdown the best possible motor you can put in a 98 240sx.Originally Posted by 1439/2000
I know this is what you guys are always getting all fired up about, but it seems to me that you can make more power with an RB without working the engine as hard. Am I right? If so, then what are the downfalls . . . weight/agility?

funny coming from a guy with a 4G63Originally Posted by SleepingTalon
Wow, I'm not sure what the fuck that statement was supposed to indicate, but OK, I'll go with that. I am in NO WAY saying the 4G is superior/inferior. I tune all sorts of cars all the time, and after the amount of time I've put in working on this stuff, I pretty much have gotten a feel for what the thresholds are of most stuff. That's all. I love these 'I got a 240 and I wanna swap in a xxxxDET, is this good/make me cool?'
Christ, I learned to quit asking tech questions on local boards years ago. Not that nobody knows, but there's no better place to go for tech info than tech specific boards when searching online.

*sigh* hahaha another round in the "I hate 240" match. This is hilarious.
It was the sexiest dyno ever.
I dunno, it really wasnt under all that much strain to be honest. It was right at about 18psi, maybe 19 for a split second. It did it rather easily too. That car is actually detuned, it can make more. Matt, the dyno chart is in the computer over at the shop. You're exactly right, as soon as the clutch started to slip, the boost was turned down. I dont quite remember how much boost it actually left with, but it was still pretty damn stout! On a side note, even my 20g didnt hold all its power all the way to redline, so I would never expect anything even remotely close outta the stock SR turbo. It's like when I tune a car with a big 16g, they make pretty much the same power/power curve as what Matt's car is makes/is capable of making, but it doesn't have a chance in hell of holding it all the way across the board. I undestand what you're saying though.

Hmm..I dont know. I'm sure Matt could answer that question better than me. If I recall correctly, it wasnt just throw some boost at it, and fuel tune, there was timing worked in there at some point. It wasn't holding 300whp all the way to redline, that's for sure, but it did infact make 300whp. Im sure we can pull the chart up and look. I'll look at it tomorrow while Im tuning on the dyno. Now you got me curiious! LOL.Originally Posted by HiPSI

But I doubt that happened. I bought it from a local guy who even said it was a stock avenir t25.

Definitely built KA-T, more bang for your buck very torque happy, gotta remember there's no replacement for displacement, 2.4 to 2.0. Or go for weight saving and get an SR and make power from it. Whats your budget, and how much power do you want? Damn, this thread is cluttered with alot of useless shit, about 9/10's of the posts on theis thread should be in the whoreslounge
E
yeah....so i will try to keep the thread informative....always go wit the original motor first ......i will boost mine as well....u can get more performance stuff and be torquey as well....the only way i would go wit SRs is to stick wit the JDM theme.....if not that..then KA is the way to go....boost it til it die first...lol
