Piece of shit GM! S10 Blazer issues.

So I was driving my brother to school today, and my 94 Blazer was running just fine. When I left the school the engine would keep revving up to high rpms in 1st and not shift when it was supposed to. It would stay in 1st for a bit longer than it should, and then kick back and go to 2nd. It then did the same thing slipping into 3rd. Last week I replaced the fluid in the AT transmission. I checked it again and the fluid looks fine and at the right level. My dad told me the transmission filter should be changed and if not done soon enough, the problem only gets worse.

I go to do that and find you have to remove the cross member, jack up the transmission in the back( it also looks like I have to unbolt the tranny), and remove the exhaust pipe that is in front of the pan. This is a ridiculous amount of work, and can't be done without making any damages. I don't own all of the tools to do it either.

Anybody have an idea on how much this would cost at a shop?

off the top of my head you just drop the pan and pull the filter out. let me check on it and i'll get back. also i don't think the filter will fix the problem but it won't hurt to change it.

A filter isn't going to fix your problem. You have bigger issues than that.

Hmm, the only revving issue I've had with my 94 Sonoma was a vaccuum line going into the front of the engine just under the air filter. I don't think thats the same issue, but I mean.... it's worth looking at?

The Auto tranny is going out of ya.. The filter isnt a MUST.. and tranny replacement/ rebuild is a MUST

The revving isn't the problem. I meant that It will keep revving in high rpms a little bit before it will change gear. I took it out for a spin yesterday and the problem seems to not be there for now. It isn't completely bad right now, I just knew it wasn't acting right.

Does it ip when the trans is cold? Or just when it's warmed up?

It was warmed up. It was fine when I drove my brother to school, but as soon as I left it was having the problem.

I know it sounds like the tranny needs work or replacement, but from what I have found very common on the S10 forums is that the filter change solves the problem. It tends to happen when the change is over due. I already changed the transmission fluid. Most people have stated that the problem completely goes away after the transmission filter change.

I misunderstood what you said in your original post. 94' was a buffer year between the electronic, and the cable operated transmission. It sounds as if you have the cable operated transmission, and the throttle valve/ cable, or the governor could be sticking, causing a late shift.

Find out which transmission you have, and we can go from there.

sounds like it could also be a problem wit the valve body. change the filter and go from there. if the problem continues then u might want to have a transmission shop look at it
