Default Calling GM gurus....question about the 3800 Series engine

Fingured someone on here might know this.

A friend of mine at work has a 04 Monte Carlo and wsa wondering if there was any way to convert it to manual. I have done a bit of poking around and have found that GM offered a 6-spd on the G6 GT/GXP models. What I cannot confirm is if the LZ9 engine from the G6 is the same/similar block to the L36 engine in the Monte Carlo. I know GM likes to use the same block (having the same bell housing mounting holes, starter position) but changes engine codes for revised intakes, valvetrain, VVT etc...

Does anyone know how different/similar these engines really are? The transmission is GM's F40 manual. Does anyone know of anyone who has mated a manual gear box to a 3800 series engine (Fiero? Grand Prix? Impala?) ? From there, the next big question is if the input shaft is the same diameter. I've already figured out that the 3800 S-II block was used in the V6 Camaro, so that would be a known way to source a clutch/flywheel.

    Help?

    I would start here:

I don't know anyone personally who has used the F40 on an L36 but I believe it should be possible in theory.

would just be better to invest in a car that is a 5speed. thats going to require a goot bit of fab work considering he would probably need to fab up a mount or 2, its not practacal for just the regularjoe blow on the street. but then again when u have the money anything is possible, so if he's got it then go for it i guess

Not worth the trouble in my opinion. Probably will cost more $ than its worth.
