could improper valve adjustments cause a hella rough idle on a d15b w/ a z6 head?

yea, they are ticking. the head is rebuilt. i havent done the bottom end yet. i started with top end. took me a while to get the timing right but after i did, the idle is awful and the valves are ticking.

if the head was rebuilt, then the valves are gonna be way out of adjustment. It's been disassembled at the machine shop...

Congrats on the fix. Reps to you for actually following up and telling the forum that the suggestions made to you is what fixed the vehicle.
