    Default 2003 Yamaha YZF R6?

Any opinions on this bike? I think this may be the bike now I get. A good friend of mine has one that was 7,000 miles on it, Its a '03, He has reciepts for all work done on it ( Does have Titanium aftermarket exhaust and a few nice upgrades also ) but does anyone know much on the bike? Is 6k a good price for it? The bike has always been garaged kept, Not abused and doesnt have one single scratch anywhere on the bike. Its Liquid Silver with the flat black fairing.

Anyone know much about this model bike?

Since the R6 made it's debut in 1999, I've had 4 of them. 99, 00, 02, 03. I think the R6 is a great bike, and the 2003 model is especially refined. It has a great look, it runs very smooth, and the handling is very nimble. The 99 I had was the best for wheelies , but the 03 was a better package in my opinion. The 03 model did have a problem with Denso coils going bad and were replaced by Mitsu in the 04/05 models. I don't know if you've ridden much in the past, but if not, I don't recommend it as a beginner bike at all. I haven't priced the R6 in a while since I sold mine quite a while back, but I'm inclined to think that $6k is a little high. I'd have to check and see what I could pick up an 05/06 for before I could say for sure. Here is an 03 that I listed for sale back in Oct 04. http://www.r6messagenet.com/forums/s...ad.php?t=25687 Hope that helps.

Brian, Thats exactly what it looks like. I have had bikes before so its not a starter bike for me. Thanks for the info on how the bike is. I just want to make sure price isnt to off. Like I said his bike is in mint shape, no flaws anywhere on it.

when you say a tad high... what are we talking, $100.00, $200.00, $300.00 too high, .... keep in mind the bike has quite a few upgrades., it has performance/looks/ tires have all been upgraded.. its not bone stock by any means, and the seller has receipts for everything done to this bike... let me know... thanks

to be honest with you...I'd rather buy a bike that is 100% stock....it's worth more to me stock than with any aftermarket parts.

Well, if you look around, you can get a mildly-modded, never-dropped, clean R1 for that price. I'd be looking at $5500 max for a perfect 03 R6 - low miles, never raced, etc. As for mods, you never get your money back on your mods unless the bike is completely insane. Hell, I have about $6K of aftermarket mods on my R1, but I doubt that I would get more than about $6500 for my whole bike. Ultimately though it comes down to how bad you want it. If it's worth the money to you, go ahead and get it. After all, you are the one riding it, so only you have to be happy with it.

I dont want an R1, Thats to much bike for what I want and need, and I dont feel Id be comfortable on a bike with that much power. A 600 was what I had before and I was always more then happy with the size and power it had.

As far as m9ods, Its not a insane mod list, He just has a performance exhaust system, upgraded new tires, a few cosmestic upgrades and the frame protectors, Its not a abused or raced bike, And yeah to me its worth the 6k price, But I just was making sure that atleast around a figure thats accurate ya know?

well then, if you got the cheese to spend...go for it....and you feel that it's the bike thats for you...go for it...

but I seriously think that there is probably better deals out there....but you do what your instincts tell you.

and anyone who says they never abused the bike...that's hogwash...all it takes is just a few seconds and you're all over that bitch...

    but in all seriousness brett..

if it's just a slip on, let's just get a ballpark figure, anywhere from $200-500
    a full exhaust system $500-800
    fender eliminator $200-300 painted
    windscreen $60-80
flush mount signals $20-100(I've seen them for more, but it's retarded to spend that kind of money on signals)
    frame sliders $40-80

and tires arent really "mods" you need them to ride.

like I said though....you can get a R6 for cheaper if you just be patient and do alot of searching some can have more mods, some can have less...

but it just seems like you are looking for reassurance on it, because sounds like your mind is already made up.

Mind isnt made up yet, But I do love the bike, and its flawless, and I know him so I know the history of the bike, not many used bikes do you get to know for sure it wasnt abused, dropped, or crazy shit done on it, Thats one reason why I am so inclined to get his. But I do appreciate all the feedback, it helps alot

I mean...just for instance.....it pisses me off to no end that I find out afterwards...BUT!

there was a guy here, who just got deployed, and a mutual aquaintance of ours just bought his bike before he got deployed for $5000.

a 2005 Honda CBR 600RR, with mods out the wazzooo, and the kicker...only 2000miles....

I mean, there are deals like that all the time, you just gotta find them, because if someone is in a hurry and needs to sell, they will unload quick and cheap....I'm just pissed that I didnt hear about it after it happened...and saw the dude roll up on it and told me how much he paid.

it's a great bike if you're wanting to rail in the hills all day... not much for around town jaunts.

    i'd recommend a harley wide-glide

yeah, I kinda agree with Erin, brett.

have you sat on the R6's?

I'm a pretty big guy, and I feel that the bike is too narrow for me, so I'm curious on how you liked the feel...

it's kinda like GSXR's....the tank flares out too much and I feel that it's too wide.

    a few minutes = comfy?

another thing to consider... you ever plan on carrying a passenger? i really don't think leisa would want to sit on the back of that thing for more than 2 minutes before telling you to turn around . for the type of riding you seem to plan on getting into, you'd be far better off with something more like a honda VFR or suzuki SV, maybe even a kawi Z750 or yamaha fzr600. sporty enough to keep up with the sportbikes, but comfy enough to ride all the time.

I hear ya, But Leisa wont be riding on the bike with me ever, she isnt into the bike thing. I wont be riding it everyday, It will just be a weekend toy to go to the mountains and rides with, You all keep thinking this is just a daily tool around town thing... Just cause Im old doesnt mean I wont want to ride the bike for what its made for...lol

well then....so far, everyone has said it's too much!

and now that I think about it.....that Zuk you originally wanted is a far stretch compared to a R6....I thought you originally wanted a sport tourer, something comfortable and easy to ride?

I orginally wanted a Kawasaki ZZR600. But all shops are sold out and if I can save $1200+ on a bike, I figure why not

I still love that bike, But Im trying to look at price at the same time, and I have loved his bike since he bought it, and like I said I know the history of this bike, which is the only reason Id consider a used one ( His ).
