Auto Transmission Issues
This is for a 1994 Infiniti J30 that has a 4spd AUTO transmission that has 138,000 miles on it.
For the past couple of months, when go WOT from a stop, my car will hit the rev limiter for about 2 seconds before shifting to 2nd.
Then sometime last week I started to notice that it was starting to have a hard time deciding which gear it wanted to be in when cruising. It would shift between 3rd and 4th constantly.
As of today, my car now will not go into 3rd or 4th at all. Last night coming back from the Alpharetta meet, it was fine cruising down 400 and didn't have any issues. You can floor it or do a slow crawl and as soon as the car wants to go into 3rd it will unlock the torque converter to shift and then just free rev. Even if I put the car into 3rd it still will not shift.
Now on the forums for my car, there is a lot of talk about a revolution sensor (no not speed sensor) that could be bad and cause the transmission to slip. The purpose of the revolution sensor is to detect the output shaft rpm and sends signal to A/T control unit.
Im hoping transmission itself isn't messed up because I don't have the time or money right now to fix it and when I do fix it I will be doing a 5spd swap.
Anyone have any insight as to what else it could be? Ive checked fluid level and all is good there also.

Trans is bad.
Clutch disks and plates are slipping..could also be MANY other components in the trans.. NEEDS REBUILD OR NEW TRANNY

^^^^ this is what i am going to try this afternoon and clean all the connectors and test solenoids. no rebuild needed. just time ti diagnose the sensors and components that tell the car what to do. it just feels like an electrical type of issue and not mechanical.

yea i know..
It could be Diodes and solenoids also.. Fuck all that.. do your 5spd swap
