Default Car will not go into gear

ok i drove my car all throughout the day yesterday and the car ran fine. i drove to my girlfriends house last night with no problems as well.

well i just went out side to leave and i started the car as normal and let it run for about 2-3 minutes while i talked on the phone.

After that i pressed in the clutch and proceeded to place it in reverse. The car then GRINDED like a bitch. so i was like WTF i tried again and the same thing happend.

i then tried to place the car in 1st gear but it the shifter wouldnt budge into place, and if i listen closely i can hear the ideal drop. its drops about 100-200 rpms when i try to place it into any gear other then reverse.

I checked my fluids etc..and everything is normal.

could it be my clutch is fucked or is the transmission fucked ?

    thanks for any help!!!!

i had the same problem... was working FINE one day.. then BAM wouldn't work.. so i turned the car off put it in first.. started it up.. and worked fine for 3-4 more days.. then BAM started not working all over again.. had to have the clutch replaced...

mechanic told me after replacing it that the "clutch plate" was completely "colapsed".. to be honest i don't know much about clutches and what not.. so i don't know exactly what that means.. but after the replacement car is running beautifully again.. (just got it back yesterday)

how much did u pay all together for parts/labor??

I'm almost positive its not the flux capacitor..they are known by all to be indestructible.

on a forester.. 750... 450 labor 250 parts.. (then like 41 in tax or something)..

this was a local mechanic in copperhill tn.. i live in north ga...

i coulda SAVED quite a bit on parts if i had the spare time to wait for standard shipping and i ordered/bought them myself..

from what i was told.. doing a clutch on an awd vehicle is tougher so labor costs more..

i had another mechanic quote me 1000 parts and labor.. so i figured the 750 was a good price.
