Default Maintenance problems with MKIV GLI?

I was looking into possibly purchasing a MKIV GLI or GTI. I know there are sites that list maintenance problems for a variety of cars, but I'm the fail at searching.

I was hoping that maybe a couple of Vdub people could chime in and help me out?

And what's this about Vdubs chugging oil?

    ^^^^This^^^^^

Scariest one is the turbo needing regular synthetic oil changes. Most owners fail at this part leading to seriously premature turbo failure.
