as the title says, how can i check my timing. i am starting to think after considering everything that it is my timing that is causing these idle problems. so how can i do it myself? can it be easliy adjusted myself?

Start the engine. Hold the engine at 3,000 rpm with no load (A/T in (N) or (P) position, M/T in neutral) until the radiator fan comes on, then let it idle.
Pull out the service check connector located behind the right kick panel. Connect the service check connector with the special tool.
3. Connect a timing light to the No.1 ignition wire, and point it toward the pointer on the timing belt cover.
4. Adjust ignition timing, if necessary, to the following specifications:
Ignition Timing:
16°±2°BTDC (RED) at 750 ±50 rpm in neutral
NOTE:
* Shift lever must be in neutral.
* All electrical systems should be turned OFF.
5. To adjust ignition timing, loosen the distributor mounting bolts, and turn the distributor ignition (DI) housing counterclockwise to advance the timing or clockwise to retard the timing.
6. Tighten the adjusting bolts and recheck the timing.
7. Remove the special tool from the service check connector.
holy not english to me. lol. i would so rather have someone do it for me. or atleast watch me do it.

its not all that hard takes like 5 minutes
so i have to unscrew the belt housing to show where the belts are?

You don't need all that fancy equipment, just check your timing with a stopwatch or a watch with a second hand...
lulz
na the marks u need 1 is on the lower timing cover the others are on the crank pully.Originally Posted by blacknightteg

wouldnt it effect the actual driving and not jus the driving if it was the timing though?

lol, yes it would. when my timing was off, my car would lag(in and out) when i stepped on the gasOriginally Posted by blacknightteg
the idle might not suffer horribly if timing is off by a tooth or two, but your lower end will feel like crap
alright. cause my car drives fine, atleast i think so, i dont feel any lagging or anything. pulls fine.

do you have a coolant bubble?
What plug wires are you using?
speed is right, at 900rpm you should have a revolution of the crank every .06 seconds. i typically use a seiko stop watch.
Exactly. It sounds to me that the spark plugs may not plugging properly. Either air is getting past the plug or the spark is not being suppressed. If the light of the spark is escaping at the plug then it can't be detected at the crank. I'd suggest removing the spark plugs and coating the threads with a thread locking compound to seal it so the light then can come out the crank and be properly timed. That's where a timing light comes in handy that the high end performance shops use.Originally Posted by green91
