    Default GSR not sparking

Well my buddy picked up a 95 GSR with a B18C in it the other day. Well, we compression tested the car, and after we were done we could not get any spark. We are definitely getting fuel, but we are not getting any spark.

The coils in the distributor tested good and the ignition control module tested good as well. We still have to make sure the distributor is getting power from the ECU.

Its not timing related, the rotor turns when you turn the car over. It will just keep turning over but wont crank. The cap and rotor look to be in good shape as well.

    Anyone have any ideas?

Which fuses could blow that would cause this? Ive looked under the hood and under the dash and we cant find any that seem they would be related to no spark.

Ok, checked all the above fuses and they are good.

Should have also mentioned that the plugs are good and the plug wires are brand new as of yesterday.

when you did the compression test, did you take the fuse out for the fuel pump?

How did you check for spark? Make sure the ground on the coil is tight. Also check the ground for the main harness on the engine block, not sure on a b18c, but on older b16s its on or near the water neck of the block.

Ok, ECU should be easy enough, he has a spare chipped p28 ecu we can throw in.

Also, if it were the main relay, wouldnt that mean it wasnt getting fuel? Or not necessarily?

not sure if this will allow it to spin over but not spark but check the grounds that bolt to the thermostat housing.

Like I said, if the ground is bad or loose you can crank the car but it won't start, I thought it was on the thermostat housing

loosen the distributor a tad bit and slowly rotate it back and forth while cranking it over. maybe the ignition timing is just off a little bit? have you verified the spark plug wires are in the right order?

it wouldnt affect him he would still have spark even if his mechanical timing was off and he had to firing order wrong.

Firing order is right. I replaced the wires one at a time, pulling off one old and and immediately replacing with a new one before we took off another old one. Firing order is right. So the timing could really be off just from a compression test? Because like I said it ran great before the compression test, and now its doing this crap.

did you unplug the dizzy when you did the test and forget to re plug it in?and if you took the cap off did you check to see if the coil spring fell out that goes from the coil into the cap?

Lol come on now, you gotta give me more credit than that! We didnt unplug the dizzy but I checked the connector anyway. We checked everything from plug gap to wires, made sure the dizzy is getting power from the ecu which it is, checked the ignition control module at a different auto zone as well, they are all good. So the only option left is something inside the dizzy, so we are just getting a new dizzy today. If for some odd reason that isnt the answer, we will just take it back, but it has to be the answer.

Make sure you are getting power to the dizzy at the black/yellow wire, you could have a problem from the ignition switch to the dizzy. Also, turn the key on and make sure the CEL goes off after about 2 or 3 seconds, you could have an ECU problem.

Read the post above the last one lol. The dizzy has power, the black and yellow wire checked right. They all checked right. We tried putting in a different ECU but it didnt work. Its the damn distributor.
