Default Just swapped tranny, need some troubleshooting.

Ok... long story short, I just swapped my accord from auto -> manual

6 speed is bolted up, everything pretty much a go.

Resurfaced flywheel, new throw out bearing, new pilot bearing, new clutch / pp. Everything was torqued down with a snap on digital tq wrench so I'm pretty sure nothing went wrong there. Filled with fresh GM synchromesh.

The car cranks, but it will idle at like 3k, then drop down to 1.5k, then bounce to 2.5k repeatedly. kinda like a surge, or vaccum leak.

I checked all the lines, and I dont see any leaks or any vaccum lines that arent connected.

In addition to that, the car makes a weird rattling noise, i think its coming from the tranny area, but im not 100% sure. sounds like somethings hitting something, but I have no idea what it could be.

The rattle is there whether the clutch is pushed in or not...

I'm completely stumped, so I dont know what else to do.

i am using the auto ECU, but that is ok. its a j-series motor and there is a custom harness i have to buy to get it to work, but the car will run with the auto ECU.

i will look into the starter hitting the flywheel washer thing. where do i put the washer?

    thanks guys

i thought the starter was only to start the car, so if you are hearing the noise while the car is idling, i doubt its the starter, i say go over to V6performance.com, those dudes do crazy things with those j-series motors,

you should do a write up on how you did your swap, parts you used, cost and things of that nature, i love the look of those 6th gen accords, but they have absolutely horrible automatic trannys, plus i dont like automatic transmissions,

its just a matter of time before i do this to an accord or one of those luxury tl or rl

    good luck

it can still make noise even when the car has been started. couldn't hurt to check it out and see if that is the problem with the noise.

im not an expert by any means but what about the idel control valve? it wouldnt be likely that it would be giving you problems right after you did the problem but who knows. lol.

ok i kind of just did this like 2 days ago so i know a little of wat im talking about here its when the starter disengages its not going in far enough so u take the starter off and put a washer in between the starter and the tranny

well when the starter engages, it comes out and meshes with the flywheel, then its supposed to retract into its housing.

i do remember when putting the starter bolt back on, the last few threads were very tight. so that could be the problem.

    i already posted on v6p

hopefully i can get this sorted out soon.

ok. the noise now goes away when i push in the clutch, so it cant be the starter.

the throw out bearing is brand new. so i dont know wtf it is :

is the clutch loose feeling because the bolts could be loose but im still banking on the starter just try it, it really doesnt take long and all u need is a 14mm socket and 2 1/16" washers

hmm, try pushing down on the slave cylinder fork. i know it sounds weird, but there is a car im looking at buying tht makes a knockin noise like that when the clutch is not pushed in and it goes away when you push on the fork

ok, thanks for all your suggestions guys.

apparently, all i had to do was just put the car on the ground and drive it for a bit. the noise is gone now, and the idle fixed itself.

how? i have no idea. LOL.

anyways, repz for everyone in teh thread.
