Cutting Plexiglass

Anyone know any good ways to cut plexiglass without shattering it? I am making a new back window for my car and need to cut it a tad shorter.

I may try a dremel tool lol. Luckily I need a lot cut so it only shatters the area I am cutting. So if I mess up the part I need is ok. Anymore ideas?

Yeah I will try the dremel, I think it cracks from the pressure of scissors and stuff.

If you have access to a bandsaw thats what you need to use. A jig saw with a good blade may do the job, and a dremel may also work. But bandsaw is the numero 1 choice. One of my best friends family make motorcycle windshields and thats what they use.

i've never cut plexiglass , but i did cut an EG bumper with one , and i went thru hella blades

Yeah, should be alot thinner than thick plastic. However I've only used the bigger wheels in a air ziz wheel. The dremel wheels may be weaker.

when i made a sub box once where i used plexy glass and i cut it with a skill saw but u have to turn the blade backwards so its not such a rough cut

Dude, come on guys. Use carbide tipped blades on it. I would not use a skil saw or circular saw. Too powerfull it would chip pretty bad. Jigsaw with a carbide blade at a slow speed should work pretty good. Or if you have access to a belt sander, use that. Plex is basically plastic.

Try taping it all up with packing tape, might help from shattering.

If you haven't done it yet, and it's a straight line you need, snap it. Get a straight edge (metal, preferably) and run a blade down it a few million times lol. Don't put a lot of pressure on it, just enough to make a groove on the plexi. Then, flip it over, put the straight edge on the line, put some pressure on it (I usually use my knee), and pull up against the straightedge. The groove will act as a "starter" for you, and the plexi will snap in a clean straight line.
