    Default Need Help Choosing ECU

My engine is built in my '97 base prelude and seriously needs to be tuned. I talked to Ed at balanced and he says I need 550cc injectors. I am planing on getting a hondata s300 and I need to know if my factory ECU will work? I'm pretty sure its the factory ECU for a prelude. Also, what other harnesses and clips and shit do I need?

Thanks, that helps alot. Now I know I need a new ECU. I have had the p72, p28, and p30 suggested to me. Which one do you guys think would be the best for the job.

P28 is always the ecu of choice when it comes to obd1, but others can be chipped as well...

choosing ecu is not a problem, If your going to buy a ecu just top chip it just to run your application then it's really not a problem. whoever is chipping it for you will take your specs down and make it run little richer, just til the time being til u get it tuned.

aem=only obd2 standalone EMS. that and like kpro. and those are fairly pricey, but theyre good, and not much more than the alternative, which would be converting the car to obd1(now its hard as shit to pass emissions) so you can run a obd1 ecu. all you would need to do that is the ecu conversion harness($100), and any obd1 ecu($50-120), plus whatever tuning software you get(last i heard, s300 goes for $425ish).

expect to spend atleast a grand on the aem unit.

Because It is a built swapped h22. The stock ecu tuning isn't giving it what the engine is made for.

    conversion harness from www.boomslang.us
p72 if you're still running the stock intake and want iab control
p28 if you don't care about iab (not really nec especially w/ turbo)
    s300 installed into the ecu
    --or--
chipping the ecu w/ crome-gold and tuning

let me know if you have any questions.

I will be running a ported Stock Intake for the streets, so I will need a p72 probably with an s300. I was also looking at AEM's engine management system. I read that it was odbII and wanted to know if it is. And if it is, can it be tuned the same (perform as well) as a hondata p72 and pass emissions?

i would recommend hondata or crome for honda's. mapping is totally different. yes, it will work and will work well, but for the $ you're better off w/ hondata or crome. you won't be able to obd2 pass, but it's not too hard to temporarily swap back or other ways.

if you have to stay obd2 then prepare to buy aem or a piggyback (don't recommend piggyback).

Okay so this is what I am giong to look to get:

    P72 ecu
    Hondata s300(probably)
    obdIIa to obdI conversion harness.

Should that be good or is there another part I need to convert it?

Thanks for all your help, but I do need to know how much of a hassle it would be switching back to obdII to get my emissions done every year. Yes I live in Forsyth with unfortunately needs emissions testings. Would it be worth the extra $300 to go with the AEM system for my car ($1099) so I wont have to change out stuff except my tune to pass emissions? Or do you still recommend me getting a p72 w/ hondata s300? (about $800 for new stuff).

And what is the difference (performance wise) between tuning with hondata and tuning with AEM?

Thanks, you guys have been a great help!

You realize even with aem, an obd2 car still wont pass emissions, just fyi.
