    ....?

meaning an oem ballast/bulbs (from something like an rx330/tsx/tl etc)

as opposed to a plug and play kit from ebay?

what do you mean by xenon or plug and play, lol?

i.e. "xenon plug and play HID kit" = <---didn't know there was a difference.

Although a pain in the ass, this is the best and sexiest way.

    I'm running the ebay brands. 70 buck 3k fogs, 200 bucks hi/lo 10k headlights

from my experience a true retrofit with clear lens will top ANY, and i mean ANY hid KIT out there.

if you dont want to do that you can source yourself a OEM ballast and a set of D2S/D2R bulbs and use casper sheilds. with this combo it is still BETTER than a cheap hid kit.

and if you dont want to do that then just buy a simple kit from ebay or something, nitro has good ones... but be ready for the glare

To answer the confusing question. Xenon is the gas within the HID bulbs, the bulbs utilizes xenon gas rather than relying on a filament. Plug and play is a type of fitment. All HID "kits" should be plug-and-play.
