When replacing a clutch, are there any hazards, precautions i should take when changing it? i've heard that one should resurface the flywheel... any help would be great, thanks![]()

yes, have the flywheel resurfaced, if you don't, you could fuck up the new clutch real quick like.
you may think the surface is flat, but if its not, then the disk will not be able to grip the surface like it should causing slippage.
i would also change the pilot and throw out bearing too.
oh, and it might be easier to drop the motor and tranny out of the car to do it. if you don't, well, have fun. and don't misalign the spline with the disk/flywheel, and dont hit any of the plate things on the pressure plate, bend any of those and it could cause some problems.
if you bought a brand new clutch, then it will have all the instructions and whatnot.
nothing major change fluids if it old, resurface flywheel, change pilot bearing and throw out bearing. pretty much all the thing that should be done anyways when replacing a clutch.
you have to love the clutch. Be one with the clutch and it will magically pop right in.
:idb:
another question... is it ok to use the same pressure plate and only replace the clutch disk? or can i get that resurfaced or something?
i would just get a new pressure plate if i were you, and wahtch your fingers they might get smashed
up, is it necessary to replace it tho? or would i run into any problems from it
Its not 100% necessary but highly highly recommended. I didn't replace the one in my SVT and never had an issue.

if you get an aftermarket one, then it should come as a kit, and have all the parts that i would suggest changing out.
1 last thing i forgot check and inspect replace if need be your rear main seal.

With the pressure plate situation, you should be able to buy a clutch kit for not to much more money with everything included besides the flywheel. I myself, would just go ahead and spend the few extra dollars for new stuff instead of using the old pressure plate, etc. Just always remember, do it right the first time and you'll be thankful later.
