Default Quick VTEC Question - Yeah I said it "VTEC" =D

Incident form 4 years ago - still need closure

    1995 Accord LX NON-VTEC with a 2001 VTEC Accord motor swap F23A1

Engine Never revved past 4k RPM

Was that simply because VTEC wasn't ran (VTEC ECU - WIRED to VTEC Solenoid etc.)

or was some other issue prevalent?

I was told that even without the ECU that the engine should've still revved like normal without restrictions.

** I feel like a rice discussing this topic but I need answers **

Ehh it should rev somewhat but it could have been caused by no VTEC.

sometimes, the accords like to run in "safe mode" i know the OBD2 cars are bi-communicational, so any CEL causes them to run in safe mode with a low rev limiter

    Hahaha VTEC Bottle.

I can def see a safe mode deal but since the LX was never VTEC to begin with there was no CEL. It never had VTEC to look for.

Car is long gone and sold twice but i've always wondered till this day.

A possible solution is filling the motor with enough oil. A simple low oil for the F23 will cause the ECU to go into limp mode and wont allow it to rev past 4kish...

Sounds like safe mods, wouldn't be a VTEC problem really. (Always)

could be b/c you had an f22 ecu on an f23 motor w/ an f22 ecu. quite possibly the maps were too far off and running too lean or too rich to be able to get enough power to rev past 4k.

Hmmm interesting, a non-vtec f23A5 worked fine in a 95 accord I had. Pulled 2 car lengths on a 99 Vtec Coupe 5mt LOL (came back on the top end though)

As far as the safe mode deal- the f22 non-vtec ECU technically would have no reason to run in safe mode since it doesn't have anything to look for (VTEC sel. for example) all sensors are accounted for.

    right?

Don't see a definitive answer coming soon.

People don't care about accords lol

if its in safe mode it will rev past the vtec point but with out engaging vtec. thats what mine has done in the past. or if its too cold or a bad temp sensor it wont rev past 6k.
vtec uses tps, motor temp, oil pressure and the vss to work
