    Default Shifter Problems

Okay, so everytime Im in gear like first all the way through fifth and even reverse the shifter is loose as hell, it goes from side to side ... sideways literarilly. Im thinking its the bushing that holds the shift linkage connected with 2 12mm long bolts to the chassis ? The car is a 94 civic 4 door ex.

    Reps awarded for any answers.

    There's a number of things.
    1. Make sure there is a pin, not a bolt connecting the shift shaft linkage to the trans.
    2. Check the bushing you mentioned.
    3. Check the bushing on the bottom of the shifter, where it connects to the linkage.
    4. Check the bushing where the linkage bolts to the trans.

Usually if the bushing you mentioned is missing, the shifter will move up and down a lot as well and sometimes even fall down completely.

I agree. Espically on such an old car. Bushing could be just worn out.
