Default more tuning with the 2871R

did some more tuning last night, got the boost controller working better but the wastegate is still screwing things up. overall happy with the result, it lazily makes it's way up to 10psi then takes off like a raped ape up to 19-20psi and stops there solidly.

runs were 19-20psi max boost, 93 octane pump piss, stock SR20DET redtop, stock manifolds.

not with stock engine management/fuel. i have a powerFC and 550cc injectors to handle that. i guess i should have stated that the engine is "mechanically stock" .

my basic power adders/supporting mods are:
    -GT2871R turbo
    -Greddy VSPL intercooler
    -3" Exhaust
    -Power FC
    -SARD 550cc injectors
    -walbro 255hp pump

pretty basic setup. going to tune for higher boost later on on some race gas just for fun.

Doug is the man... what more can i say? (since i can't mention the name of the shop).

now if only i can get rid of the lazy boost curve from 4500-5250.

you should try one of those hks actuators, the springs are a bit stifferand its adjustable. best upgrade i did for >$100

doesn't fit the 2871... i had one on my T25 and it did work nicely though. the 2871 requires an actuator with a bigass kink in it because of the T04E compressor housing being so much larger than the T28 exhaust housing.

he would have to take the manifold off, 4+ hrs, he would have to weld the internal wastegate closed, he would have to buy a spacer for his manifold, $100+, then an external wastegate, $290+, then put it all back together make a new turbo elbow cause the old one wouldnt fit and probably redo all the lines. so no its not really a good option.

not quite that bad, but close.

basically i'd have to pull the manifold off the motor, try my damnedest to flatten a spot on the top enough to weld a flange onto it, hope it doesn't crack since it'll be a steel flange on a cast manifold... then weld the old flapper shut (technically i could be ghetto and just unplug the pressure line and add helper springs to lock it shut all the time, but i'm not THAT half assed ). i've seen it done before, so i may try it one day when i have a chance, but for now i'm just going to toy with it little by little.

This was with 20 pounds on 71R? I made around 320hp and 309 with 17-18 pounds on the disco on my 240. Hmmm what would be the main difference in our power output? I had 264 cams but that shouldn't make up for that much. And I had an RSPL fmic but other than that we had the same setup.

From what you're saying you had creep pretty bad though. Good luck with the head gasket.

actually with the big turbo cams would make a large improvement, likely changing nothing else i'd be looking at ~30-40hp when tuned right. the torque would have a bit more peak if i can get the wastegate issue worked out, and it'll move the torque curve a little lower on the chart.

Yeah my cams werent really that much of an improvement on the 240. On the galant they made a huge difference. I think your main thing is the boost creep.

Hit full boost sooner and its gonna feel ALOT better.
