Default General Experiences with Civic Head Gasket Services

EG civics are know to do this of course but what are your experiences after repair (New Gasket, Head sent out to a machine shop etc.) i'm the type of guy that will get the whole engine replaced but I'm looking @ a '94 civic with 110k original miles think the owner had a bad thermostat and ran it hot causing the gasket to blow.

Do they do well after this service is performed, do they last?

    Thanks!

Yes they actually runn better, due to taking the head to the machine shop and getting it decked an checked builds alittle more compression, because when they shave it, the head is closer to the block now and builds more...I done many heads on civics/integras/TL,RL,etc and never had a issue, but once....Had a civic with 280K miles and the customer beggs us to do a head on it, I told him it might not last, could throw the bottom end out...They didnt listen 2 months later the rod started to knock..other then that DO IT!

if it didnt get ran so hot til it shut off doing the headgasket should be fine. ive seen ppl drive cars/trucks til it looses power and just say it ran hot. civics are pretty tough though bc i melted a pisto and blew a headgasket. put one piston in it and siliconed the headgasket on (bc the metal was seperating form the aluminum on the sleeves) and kept driving. when i finally took it out it was still running. made 50 whp on the dyno and rated at 70 from the factory. lmao!!!

besides, u can find enigines next to the candy all day at quicktrip.

cool, I'm just going for reliability though.

Do you guys use OEM Honda head gaskets or what other aftermarket brand(s)?

    Getting it done this week!

Ive used Felpro MLS gaskets on all my builds. They are still multi later steel like OEM. The big thing with overheating is making sure they measure the block for deck warpage since the block is aluminum and the sleeves are steel they warp differently when overheated. If its not perfectly flat it will blow your new gasket. Same applies for the head.
