Default how can you conserve gas?

With the continuous increase of gas prices, how can you conserve gas of you are driving a SUV? Would it be appropriate if I'll sell it? Any kind of strategy will do. Thanks in advance.

    carpool with your friends

a steady throttle is key, brake earlier when you see a redlight. chances are if you're slowing for a long time ,you make the car's engine spend less effort to speed up again if it turns green before you stop completely.

^^ Yeah, I drew a frame of a man running on each fan blade. That is him running at idle

    My strategy:
    * Keep your tires inflated
    * Make sure your air filter is clean.
    * Make sure your O2 sensors are working properly.
    * Keep tabs on your mileage - best indicator of trouble.

*Lookout ahead for red lights. COAST instead of accelerating to the light and braking to a stop. The guy behind you may tailgate you a bit, but you're also saving him some gas. Gotta be careful and not be an ass about this though.

*Watch your surroundings and determine the best speed. If there is no one around, I'll go 60 on the interstate if I'm in no hurry.

*Accelerate moderately, not too slow and not too fast.

    * Use the A/C instead of rolling the windows down. The drag caused by the windows slows you down and affects your too. When your motor is working (not idling), the A/C power draw isn't all that significant and will probably cost about the same as the drag from the windows (I cant prove this, just my theory).

My other car is a hybrid. Really.

tested on mythbusters, was found to be false and in fact opposite. i think they found that the AC wastes 15-20% more fuel than the windows down.

the actual test results go like this

its more efficent to roll the windows down if you are traveling under 45mph. if you're goin faster than 45mph roll em up and blast the a/c.

Well, here's just a few things you can do yourself:

    1. Cut the wires on 4 of the fuel injectors.
    2. Remove all of the unnecessary stuff (spare tire, rearview and sideview mirrors, side glass and doors etc...)
    3. Get a 3 inch hole drill bit and drill holes in the frame rails and all over the car.
    4. Wire a resistor box in line with the fuel pump.
    5. Mix the gas with half water... (preferably mixed with a 5lb bag of sugar)

that makes alot of sense, actually. i didtn even thin about the fact that drag exponentially increases with speed. i used to know the formula, but i forgot.

The girl is clearly confused by the offset of the rear tire sans camber correction and the obvious discrepancy with the nationality of the driver.

    Though...

They very well could be a traveling European couple (judging by the girls pissy demeanor and boy's limp wrist) that hasn't yet invested in a good set of stretched tires to make the barbie vette fully "dank".

Pretty much all the things I was gonna suggest are in here already. Driving slower (60-65) keeps fuel mileage in check, too, because your rpms are lower. Sucks, but that's the way the world goes.. if you wanna go fast and get over 25mpg, get something with less cylinders lol.

Fuck stance. Stance is for kids in skinny jeans with Justin Beiber haircuts. You don't need stance when you got swagger.

    It's really simple,

    Just keep inflating those tires!

i have been doing a project like this for a while mine is a 94 civic cx. i see alot of good and bad advice in this thread. here are a few tips i have been using i get between 41-43 city driving!

    1. slow the **** down!

    2. dont remove the cat! back press helps with fuel economy a bit!

3 . take the big wheels off. i have 13 inch vx wheels with 165 series tires the weight around 10 lbs with tires!

4 . dont floor it drive like there is a egg under the gas pedal. goes with number one its better to down shift then to floor it.

    5. increase tire psi i run 50psi in all 4 make the ride a little bumpy but helps big time with fuel economy and coasting down hills!

    6. keep it well maintained lighter weight oil helps a bit. i would not put cold air intake one it. if anything you want the opposite a hot air intake i have the inlet on my stock intake turned aroud toward the radiator. this will hurt power but will help with mpg

    7. high temp termastat

8.grill block but cut a few small hole for the radiator but rember the hoter you car run the car safely will help your mpg .

    9. dont run the a/c

    ACETONE.

Acetone will severly dry and destroy rubber seals. This stuff IS paint thinner. It will damage you paint - be careful.

I woudn't use it. If you're going to, please let us know if it helps.
