    Default WRX question. please look!

    Okey, i just bought a 02 WRX from one of the member on here yesterday. I just went for a drive, i was doing around 70mph in 5th gear. So i step on the gas and i reach to about 90mph and than the car just kicks back as if i was breaking hard with me still on the gas peddled to the floor, i get scared and let go of the gas. As that happened check engine came on. I slow down and go WTF, did i just buy a ****ed up car. SO i try doing the same thing but in 4th gear, i do 70-110mph in 4th gear and everything is fine. Now i try fifth gear again and it does the same thing again at 90mph, but this time i kept my foot on the gas. The car kicked back as if it was breaking at 90mph but with my foot still on gas, the car kept going and than kicked back at about 100mph again, with my foot still down on gas, car kept going and kicked back again at about 110mph. Than i just give up come home and sat here and worried my ass off. Well ill be going to a shop tomorow to see what codes that check engine will throw out.


    Can someone please tell me what might be happening here.


    UPDATE:

    I went to auto zone, they gave me this info

    The PCM has determined that the voltage for wastegate solenoid "A" is out of range for the current engine operationg conditions.

    WTF does that mean? help anyone. And today i filled up my tank, and the check engine went away.

    Sounds like it could be some kind of a speed Governer to me..? But, if its throwing CEL code, then maybe not...

    Sounds like you hit a fuel cut.

    What mods are done to your WRX? Til you get tuned, It'll continue to do it.

    Hmmm then I don't really know what it could be.

    Staying on boost for a long time would cause a fuel cut. Do you have a boost gauge? If you do, next time you're in 5th, check how much boost you're hitting. Stock you should only be running 12.5psi if I remember correctly. If you're pushing more than that, then you're over boosting thus causing those fuel cuts.

    post on WRXATLANTA.com, there are some techs on there that may know.

    I know 02's have weak tranny's. Becareful when driving it hard, definately don't launch it.

    i do have boost gauge but it needs to be connected. Man i really hope this works out.

    your boost gauge needs to be connected? Was it connected before? If so you are leaking. It only does it in 5th huh?

    I really didnt want to drive fast, is steped on the gas just to speed up a lil bit than slow down. But out of no where my car just slowed down by its self . Than i was like wtf, and than i had to test the car and check if 4th gear would do the same thing. But only 5th gear is doing it.


    Well ill see what codes it throws out tomorow.

    Well in 5th gear all WRX's are factory tuned to a low amount of boost say... 8 psi. It is designed to not overboost. It does not seem to be a speed limiter due to being able to push it further. When you get the code tomorrow PM me what it is. I am getting pretty good at fixing other peoples mess ups on their subies.

    And as for the whole myth of the 02s having a glass tranny someone should read a thing or two. There are numerous big hp subies that are still on the stock tranny. It is all about how you drive it. Most of the time if the tranny does break it is due to the shaft vibrating when going into second gear.

    lol He could just disconnect the battery and reconnect it to reset the ECU.

    Got milk, I would go to an advance auto parts or autozone and have them check your check engine code. Write it down and do some research on it around Wrxatlanta or Nasioc. I think it's a fuel cut, hopefully it's nothing serious.

    I was just informing him of the tranny so he doesnt do anything crazy that may cause it to break. I am over 340 tq now and still on my stock tranny so I do know they will survive if driven responsibly.

    yep.......don't shock the tranny when shifting.

    and yea, thx i didnt know they had a bad tranny. I sure wont be doing no digs hehe.

    Did you fill up with Premium?

    I can't imagine why it was only doing it in 5th gear but it could have been the knock sensor trying to minimize engine damage if the car had ****ty gas in it before. It's a thought at least?

    I think its giving to much boost, thats what guys on WRXatlanta told me. But its not biggie cus it only does it at 90mph at 5th gear only. I can do 4th gear to w.e. speed i want tho. But i try not to speed any more, since i just got out of court.

    u hit a boost cut...car saved itself. CEL is prlby for wastegage
