problem with engine rev in my DA

aight i have a 91 teg ls b18a1 i just replaced the clutch and tranny i havent ran the car hardley since i lost my lisence in january and its just developed somthing wierd with the way it revs it idles kinda rough but the problem is when i go to rev it up if i rev it fast its fine and fairly smooth but if i slowly rev it its like i have a launch control or just a wierd skip but it dosent stop from going up in the rpms it does it from 1,000 rpms to like 3,000 after that it seems ok i looked at the ecu flashing code and its 1 long blink with 4 fast blinks code 14 i looked it up and it says its the IDLE AIR CONTROL VALVE but ive been told that the IACV should just be for controling the idle but the person that told me that is kind of a moron but i was wondering has anyone ever heard of one doing this or had this problem??? and did the IACV fix it?

go ahead and take the IACV off and clean it with carb cleaner spray that you get from a autozone. you can use break cleaner but i would use carb and see if that solves your problem. cause if its your ecu telling you that then thats prob what it is. and make sure the plug is in all the way to.

I prefer Brakeclean only because it evaporates better than carb cleaner. But yeah, take it out and clean it thoroughly. Make sure you bleed the coolant system after you put it back together.

i tried it and its still has the problem it seems a lil better tho

could it be anything else that could be triggering the ecu to flash iacv code???

no if the code is still present then its still there. you can try to reset the ecu but i think its gunna come back. take the negative battery cable off the battery for 5 min. that will clear ecu soft codes. then reconnect it and see what happens.

Another thing you can try is blocking off the IACV. Take it off and trace it out on either a piece of cardboard or gasket material (that's what I used) and place it between the IACV and intake manifold. If this (and/or resetting the ECU) doesn't fix it, find a used one for $50.

if you cleaned it out but didnt reset the ecu for a cpl secs it will still remain in the computer as a problem. so clean it and reset ecu by taking off battery cable a few secs.
