    Question Overheating...

So... my car stays at a nice and cool temperature while driving but if i sit for too long it starts to warm up. and i dont like that. what it do?
its been doing that for quite some time now but never paid too much mind to it since i barely sit. i just DRIVE!

but umm... im tired of it happening now. ive recently been through 2 thermostats in the past 3 days and umm.. im now wondering what it could be.

ur radiator cap could be bad or ur fans are not coming on if the fans are not coming on the fan switch could be bad or the fuse could be out or the fan motors could be bad. I would start with the radiator cap though

Try squeezing out the bubbles homie, you might just have some air in the system. It doesn't cost anything and wouldn't hurt to try.

Take off radiator cap while engine is cold, and start squeezing the lower radiator hose repeatedly.

you should also turn the heater on to full blast while doing this

Ok, common sense (not poking fun, helping u learn how to diagnose). If your driving your getting a consistant amount of air flow. When ur sitting you do not. So that is what the fan is for. Let ur car cool. Start it up, let it warm up. Keep an eye on it and make sure the fan comes on. If it does and your still experiencing over heating replace your theromostat and I dunno how often u change ur coolant, but change it out. Most do a 50/50 mix. I do a 70/30 with more water.

his fan is hooked up that it comes on at start up, like my truck comes from the factory, so his fan is always on...he's also already replaced his thermostat...

i just thought about replacing with a lower degree thermostat if you havent already done that. but when you should flush your coolant though, bleed the system, replace thermostat (just for piece of mind, thats how i roll), put a fresh radiator cap on and you should be good

so does your fan turn on though? jumping it doesnt mean it comes on, just means its supposed to. if it works flush your coolant and replace your radiator cap. still doesnt do the trick, replace your water pump, thermostat, and fan switch. and if it still doesnt do it get a new radiator lol

I've been having the same issue with my car for awhile too. It hasn't done it in quite some time, but removing the bubbles helps, and draining your old coolant and adding some 50/50. If this has been going on for a long time like you stated, you might have a blown headgasket.

Of course, this is what pro's have told me. But then again, I don't drive a Honda.

Im also getting a new radiator cap for my car, soon.

I had a fan relay issue in my ej and it was doing the same thing. We jumped the relay to constant power. If yours is in fact like this, how long has it been like that? The fan is not made to stay on all of the time and in fact should almost never come on while you are moving. By having your fan hard wired you are drastically shortening the life of your fan motor and that also might be your issue.

The mx used to do that, well it wouldn't run hot, it would just run slightly above norm while sitting, fans would be running full blast, never hurt anything and i went through everything trying to fix it. I blame it on GA heat, and traffic, the only cure i ever found that work was to cut the heat on for a few seconds and it would drop it back to the norm range.

My brotha has same problem,I think its just old fluids or you could take the cap off wait for car to heat up and see if fluid goes into the block. Most of the time you have to fill the radiator more than once to get the right amount of fluid in.Lol thought I had enough my car heated up real quick.I had to fill it up about 4 times. After replacing small hose that leaked all my coolant out from the im.Hope this help G/L

If you have done everything including the thermostat cap and squeezed the bubbles out, then it might be a head gasket. Just go to a radiator shop, I trust Sims Radiator shop in Lawrenceville, and get a block check done. They put a dye into this container and squeeze the air out of the cooling system onto that dye. If the dye turns a certain color, then your head gasket is blown and the exhaust gases are mixing with your coolant.

Try that "Water Wetter" stuff, I have it in mine and it actually works. Ignore the directions, just pour it in ur radiator, or however u would normally add it. It works. I kno this thanks to my FANS never turning on unless the car is off (they dont work properly) but it keeps the temp lower than half, even in the GA traffic and heat when I'm down there.

    hmm, lets see

have you tried replacing the radiator cap?

how about flushing the coolant... that usually works.

thermostat? Those go bad a lot.

Hmm, get your block decked and check your headgasket, they might be bad.

oh wait, it might be your fan switch or your fan not coming on!

have you tried squeezing all the bubbles out or maybe dye would work?

you might just try flushing out the radiator, or just buying a new one?

I've also heard that Water Wetter (or whatever it is) works well.
