Default how to install rear deck speakers in a DX

Just curious for those that have rear deck speakers in your DX where the 5 1/4's go. I see the mounting holes at the bottom but there is no opening for these on the top deck part. Are you supposed to install these with or without cutting a hole in the deck because it looks like all the wiring is there to hook them up just no hole in the rear deck. Just curious what you guys did in this situation. Thanks

Oh sorry, 95 civic dx 2 door coupe Doesnt have rear side speakers just rear deck speaker cut outs. Looks like it has factory cutouts in the metal and wiring but no cut outs in the fabric deck.

there are many ways to do this as i have a DX and have done all the methods... one, center the speaker over the hole that it goes in.. and cut it out, install speaker and put over the speaker cover. or two, go out and search for a EX rear speaker panel and install that with your speakers

hmmm got out there and looked and there isnt much clearance back there with the lock release brackets in the way. Was gonna try some 6x9's but they wont clear by far. They look like 5 1/4's back there. Anyone tried to work around this or just went with stock size speakers?

Why would you need a spoiler on a front wheel drive car?

New car:
95 S14 with RB25DET (stock boost)

Old car:
Turbo S2000 400hp/285tq on 9:1 comp & 11psi

hey GHOSTKILLA, I was just wondering, are you sure they are 5 1/4? Mine took 6 1/2's, they were the same size as the door speakers. Mine had an opening in the sheet metal already for them. I had to cut a hole in the material on my back deck, where the hole is in the metal. Then they should fit right in.
Back to being stock and slow

Yeah I was going by crutchfield and for some reason they say 5 1/4 but They accomodate 6.5's great. The problem isnt the sheet metal, the DX's dont come with speaker grills on the back deck but the EX's did.

oh ok. I put alpine 6 1/2s in there and they came with a ring that went around the speaker and over them. I like the look of them a lot better than the speaker grill but that's just my opinion. So are you looking for speaker grills or just trying to figure out with one will fit best?

Just trying to keep it stock looking for the most part. If you got a stock looking deck over aftermarket grills I figure your less likely to get noticed for having a system. lol Im sure I could make it work with my stock cover and some 6.5's with grills but I think it would be too much hassle to mess with taking them out and in again if I wanted to. Im going to a honda yard later to get teh right stuff.

got ya, well my deck isn't the stock material or whatever. Yeah, it may be to much hassle in that case. Going to a honda yard or whatever and getting what ya need will probably make it a lot easier to replace them if you want to down the road... sucks ya gotta worry bout ppl knowing if you have something in your car or not. Too many freaking thieves out there.

Worrying about that isnt my biggest concern, I can handle a thief. Its more or less the ease of swapping being easier with the right stuff ya know. If I was planning on selling this car soon it wouldnt matter.

I think the same year model ex should work. I got a whole interior out of a 96 EX and was told the rear seats would work but you gotta switch out the rear latches and deck and everything. NOT worth the hassle. lol

today went and got a deck cover from a 95 EX so I got it now. Only problem is the grills dont exactly just snap off they have screws on them. Might have to modify something so I can just clip them on and off if I wanna change speakers.

Get some component sound systems! Polk audio db6500! 6.5's front & rear! After that, get a subwoofer & 4-5channel amp. Your done my man. If it don't fit; customize it to fit or take it to the pro's.
