i have a 99 civic DX and i was wondering if anyone could tell me how much HP i can get from a mini me swap? is it worth it if i get a Gude head and do the mini me or would i be better off with a b16 swap?

not familiar with the mini me swap. I have heard that Gude=poop though so i would say go with a b16 or b18 since most are pretty affordable
a mini me on a SOHC is where you put a vtec head on a non-vtec block
if you're on a budget, a mini-me would add some pep to your single cam...
-another route you could go: get a bigger cam for your motor
Delta Cam makes good non-vtec sohc cams.
-both can cost about the same if you do the labor yourself
Go here if you want to learn more about mini-mes...
thanks, but how much HP comed from a mini me?
I'm looking at doin that also... since I'm tired of no umph
power gains vary...adding a vtec head increases compression. You can also use a thinner head gasket to increase compression. Read about some of the setups on that link I posted. That should give you a better idea about power gains.
From firsthand experience their not worth it. I'd rather just spend the money on a b18 or even an ls motor.
i will disagree i did the swap on my 89 si and loved it was just as fast if not faster then a b18a swap...Originally Posted by wannab20hatch

Fuck that. Check out ALLL the shit I just typed in the General tech under this guys topic. It might answer a few of yall's questions.
this is crazy, everyone makes good points. i guess i am just going to have to go with somthing and see what happens.
b series mod for mod will always be faster. my mini-me with intake and exhaust in a STD hatch got beat by my buddies ls swapped dx hatch with the same mods.

Its common sense that a B with I/H/E will beat a D with I/H/E...
But the price difference is HUGe....
Put it this way... You spend 2500 on a b swap... And I spend 2500 on my D... I'll whup your ass left and right.
umm ron is'nt a ls motor and a b18 the same thingOriginally Posted by wannab20hatch

dont under estimate the little d-series,`the b motor is a good motor but it is not always the best route to take.

also depends on if you know how drive..Originally Posted by wannab20hatch
just cause you get beat does mean that a b18 is faster than a mini-me

Phantom... What the hell is up with your avatar? lol that shits huge.
Thats a bold statement to make. So if i have an ls integra and i spend 2500 on it and you spend 2500 on your d series youll whoop me? no way because for 2500 i could have a cheap turbo b series peak boost kit and i doubt a d series will touch that. UNless you have a fully built bottom end and a hella turbo on a d series itll be hard to keeop up with a b16 swap. seen it firsthand very very hard and d series run out of potential way to quick.Originally Posted by mp5o
he means take a stock civic you both get to spend 2500 and thats it he would whipyou every time and i agree you spend your 2500 on a swap and get 140hp put 2500 in to a d-seris and make 250hp at least if you know what your doing and probaly with money left over.Originally Posted by wannab20hatch

Ok buddy... Read a little harder... Its obvious that the info I posted was correct....Originally Posted by wannab20hatch

Civic B will win everytime... Make sense to you now??
Now... About D running out of potential... How much are you trying to put out?? 600HP??? Unless your trying to put out godly numbers... The little D series is way more than enough. 200WHP on stock internals not enough for you? 300+WHP on built internals not enough for you? Now.... If your an all motor type of guy... I would skip the B all together and go K..... Cus it'll take just as much money to get a B to put out that much HP all motor...
but you will spend more for a K... but it's worth it!
lol, but who has the $$$ for a k? :jerkit:
not I said the broke ass Honda employee
Scooby you work at honda? Hook me up with a job man. I've got a lil bit of experience.
I work at Honda Carland in Roswell.. I know we are hiring for Valets and could be for a tech or oil changer..
Damn... Roswell.. How far is that from gwinnett mall?
umm... I dunno.. I live in marietta I don't go to gwinnishen country often only to drop cars off at Acura Carland from our body shop...
I'm all about the d series. The B has a lot more potential, but it will dig you into the biggest money pit ever.
I mean... swap a B, more than likely it'll probably be done on the side with some trouble shooting here and there. Being an obd2 "ek", you'll probably be looking for an obd2 motor (yeah yeah you can convert it) and a hydro tranny which would set you back in the money as well. All that money that you did to buy the motor, buy the parts to put the motor in and end up runnin 15s probably won't get you pleased. Shit, even if you went with an LS motor you'll probably be lucky to hit 15s...
Now if you take what you have now, the d, which all the connections etc etc were still factory installed and slap either a pieced together kit with new parts or pieced together junkyard style, you'll eat up a B with ease...especially now that you've got that extra umph of torque that'll get you to the top of the hill, which the majority of hondas have trouble with. You can look to spend from 800-1800 on a decent kit. You don't need WAY over 300 whp to hit 12s, or even 11s if ya get lucky. You being non vtec is even better with a turbo. Non vtec motors seems to make a pretty good bit of power over my vtec motor, the tq is amazing. The D is an underdog...
and dont forget GAYOriginally Posted by iNsTuN nOoDoH

so go and build the y7?
do what you want to do man. dont let us influence you its all about what you want at the end. i spent over 2gs on a b18 and dont regret it. shandy aka instun noodoh has prolly spent well under that on his D and has 200+hp and donst regrent boosting it. i can honestly tell you there are only 2 reasons why i decided to swap one was the POTENTIAL and 2 it just looks better when you see a dohc under the hood of any civic pre 2002 period. thats all. man just do what you want to do. its your money and its gonnna be your headaches while completing the task at hand. just make the decision you want and you will feel 100% better when you are satisfied with either your built D or swapped B....my 0.02Originally Posted by Curbow_USMC
