    Default running hot

car started running hot before i got to my g/f house. Never done it before, i was in bumper to bumper traffic. I pulled over and let it cool down, untill i could get it off the interstate. I made it to a gas station and parked there for a while and let it cool down, so i decided to drive it all the way to my g/f's house and it would go from where it should be to hot and back down again. So what's that sound like, thermostat?

definetly sounds like a fan issue, when moving air flows through enough to do a decent job of keeping it cool... when sitting still if the fans not turning no air is circulating through it... like already said pop the hood and make sure the fans turning.

see if hard wiring it to the battery helps... if it does then either the radiator fan switch/temp sensor is bad or the fan itself is bad.

Yeah def. would look at fan first if it happened sitting still. Was it all the way up? When you said normal, hot, back down, is that while driving on an interstate at steady speed?

check your coolant also. sounds weird, but low coolant can produce very similar symptoms as a bad rad fan (overheats in traffic, cools down when at speed).
