Default Here we go again.. (cluster)

I think I opened a box of worms..

the car has been running fine since I got the relay fixed..

well tonight driving home.. I happened to glance at my speedometer and the needle started flicking back/forth.. then laid on the 0 mph...

the check engine light then came on..

luckily I was right around the corner from the house.. pulled into the driveway, turned off the car, turned back on the car and the check engine light didn't come back on..

I let the car run, check for leaks, anything possible. NOTHING.

I'm assuming my SPEED SENSO took a crap? I remember when I first purchase the car several years ago, I changed out (sensor/or whatever you call it) that was in the cluster because my speed wasn't working correctly, it was off by like 10 miles. I changed that and never had a problem until now.

The only reason why I say that it could be a speed senso is b/c the damn check engine light came on.

    Any suggestions?

and the miles for when you reset them or miles on the car are not working in addition to the MPH

I don't think its the cluster persay, it has something to do with the schematics on the speedometer.. or a sensor

how do I check the code? I'm assuming I'll need equipment to do so.. plus if I turn on/off the car the check engine light will turn off?

your problem is in the electrical portion of the speed sensor. looking from the passenger side the sensor is on the left side just above were the axels meet the trans.

To pull codes look for a two pin blue plug under the dash in the passenger kick panel, it may be tucked inside a green sleeve. once found jump the two wires with a paperclip and turn the key on and count the lights

have u replaced the speed sensor? You can do a few things

    1. Go to a legit shop and get charged for a diagnosis

    2. Go to Adavnce or Auto Zone and they will put out the code for you, and you look it up on the net.

reset you ecu....pull the negative terminal off the battery ( leave it off for a minute, then put it back on) or just take the backup radio fuse out of fusebox in engine bay (for 1 min.) and slip back on. This should reset ecu, clearing your codes; if light still comes on then get a diagnostics....AND pepboys or advanced auto should do a free diagnostics (no charge man....)

autozone and advance can't check an OBD1 code for you, they dont have the right scanner, OBD1 scanners are ridiculously expensive if im not mistaken. i went and got mine checked on the DL for $25 but they usually charge almost $50 for it on a regular basis. im going to assume yours is OBD1 or 0 so you will either have to take it to a good shop and pay out the a$$ or do the paperclip. its super easy to do the paper clip and there are 1,000,000 forums with lists of the code readouts. and its important to put the paper clip in and then start the car. then the CEL will start to flash
