blow off valve question

im trying to find a nice sounding blow off valve for my 90 talon,but from what ive read i have to recirculate it back into the turbo side of the intake.i understand why i just want to know if there is an aftermarket b.o.v that will eliminate the problems with changing the stock b.o.v. and im trying to avoid the whole gm mass air flow sensor and translator thing if i can. any suggestions?

i had a hks ssq and loved it,the problem is that type of b.o.v vents into the atmosphere im looking for something that will have that hks sound but none of the problems related to removing the return line,like stalling,bucking,stumbling,running rich inbetween shifts and so on.

Not all DSM's get that "stumble" you're talking about when you vent a MAF equipped car. It's kinda hit or miss with the whole thing, but if you wanna still use the dump from the BOV, the Greddy Type S is probably you're best option. However, if you wanna try and vent it, get the TIAL.

If you want to vent without using abnother mas use an hks ssqv. Its pull type and works fine. I have it venting on my car now. If you want something else you'll have to vent it. Stock blow off valve work really well though.

Every dsm however gets the rich between shifts from venting the BOV, if you can handle that, decreased gas mileagle, occasional stumbling upon itself after you change shifts etc

A VPC will make the "recovery" like shit on a DSM. I have one on my car and put installed dozens of them on other DSM's and they all do the same thing. If you were gonna use a VPC, you would need another piggyback to make the driveability bearable. Usually a SAFC will suffice, but the problem with that is that the "decel air" function doesnt work and you can enrich the fuel for when you're letting off the throttle. What I've found is that the DSMLink works best when used in conjuction with the VPC. It makes a shitload of power and the car drives like stock (not withstanding all the other bullshit you may have done to your car!). A Maft would probably do the trick, but I've personally had more luck with VPC's. I personally love the VPC, and think it works great. They just take a bit longer to dial in when you're using other systems like DSMLink, and SAFC's. However, if you can live without the "psssssfffhhhh" then just recirculate it.

I have used the HKS SSQ vented to atmosphere and I'm using the Type-S right now vented as well. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones that has had no problem with running the set up this way. Just like others have posted, its really a hit or miss type of scenario. I have been pondering the idea of recirculating the Type-S but I think Im going to be upgrading to the Tial setup instead.

It's really not worth it. Sure it sounds cool but your stock bov will hold boost like a champ (hell I had to upgrade to a 1g bov) plus your car will, as stated above, suffer from rich conditions between shifts, which means lower gas milage, and most likely stumble. I have a friend that custom fabbed a hard metal return pipe (pipe from your bov that goes back to the intake pipe) and it makes it sound a lot louder because the air is hitting the metal which resinates (sp?) more than rubber does. it's not quite as loud but pretty close to sounding like a vented bov, and no ill side effects...just an idea.

Tial and HKS will be my choice as well on VTA. but usually for Evo's, VTA really effects the drivability.

I have my greddy type-S on recirculate, but once you start running more boost then the stock, it'll hold at full WOT, but you'll have some boost surging and RPM issues at half throttle boosting on Evo's.

I believe the Karman Vortex is same on most DSM and Evo's, but with little more restriction on DSM's.

You could try Dual BOV, they tend to solve some of the problems, but really the best way is 1g crushed or even Evo MR valve on your DSM.


Another way is bit more expensive, but getting an AEM EMS, a standalone ECU. That'll eliminate the MAF sensor all together.

That and MAF relocation, but I wont get into that... that's more costly and not very effective considering the Standalone option.
